I bought these gutter mount ladder racks off eBay this week so I could mount my steel safari rack from my Explorer. The problem is that I cant decide on the spacing between them. The pictures show how it is temporarily- the rear two are farther apart than the front allowing easier mounting of the safari rack. Should I leave them spaced like this or should they be evenly spaced? I think I might move the rears a little closer, but not even- if they are evenly spaced it kinda makes the rack mount whop-sided front to rear, because it hangs over the center bar more than the rear. Any thoughts?

Not bad, but the bars, well they're a little . . . . hmm, I don't know how to say it without being offensive, but its just not right. What's the front bar used for, lights? If I were you go to www.autoanything.com and look up GM style gutter mounts. This would give a MUCH better look than what you have now. Sell the mounts on Ebay again. The basket looks fine - mount it towards the back.

This is what I decided on. I moved the rear bars more forward a little. The front bar will soon have 5-6 lights on it and be tied in with the basket. This thing handles me standing inthe basket with no deflection or creaks-rock solid. I could have gone with the Surco type that you speak of, but they dont really have any load capacity. These are designed to hold 300+ lbs. I know it is not what you normally see on a Rover, but I like how offensive they are
These bars only cost me about $100 including the hardware to mount the basket to them.

Looks good man ! I like the way you finaly positioned it . How hard would it be to get one more crossbar ? A full length rack would be sweet
