Default No Oil Pressure oil light on ? =/

So anyways I guess my classic has been having oil pressure problems for awhile now. So i took the pan off when it was in the garage and i left it the whole day with the pan and the filter off i came back and put new oil in and ahh no oil pressure..and the light was on solid. So i then proceeded to do the vaseline trick and i pulled the pump off and i put a new gasket in the sandwich part of the pump then put the grease in and assembled the pump and the lower end...i didnt replace the gasket for the lower end that fits the filter on.. it didnt fit that easy when i put it in. put new oil in (10-30). So that didnt work then i tried the drill method of taking out the distributor...annnnnnd i forgot to mark where the arm was so i had to re time the engine to top dead. then i primed it with the drill and it got pressure! awesome i thought so i drove it for say about 20ish miles then the light started flickering and then gradually came on solid so i pulled off imediattly and shut the engine off...freeked out and called a tow truck to tow it home. but before the tow truck came i started it up and it sounded fine!! and the oil light was off? what the? so i got it home...now its back to no pressure. i pulled the pan off checked the oil pickup cleaned that...looked fine..and i installed a brand new distributor! put new oil in ...10- 40 ..started it up....sounds horrible..and no pressure? im so confused? could the value be stuck open? i hope i havent run the bearings dry

I assume you installed a gauge and confirmed that there is no pressure, and it isn't a oil pressure logic unit going south. I ask this because when I bought my 88 the oil light was on and the owner said to ignore it, that it was only a sending unit. I later found that it wasn't the $4.00 unit but the $250.00 logic unit

Good advice. Get a real gauge in there and see what it says or at least change the sending unit. Im thinking the logic unit is the one hooked to the oil pan but it basically flashes when the level is low. I just disconnected mine as it was flashing for no reason. Gordo.
