I went through a water hole yesterday and made it to the other side, but when I started up a hill the engine cut out and I couldn't get it going again. Please tell me that this is not a huge issue. The real tradgedy is that I had to get towed home by a Jeep... Thanks for any ideas you guys may have!

how deep were you in?
Did you get water in the passenger compartment? If so make sure the ECU is dried out and not fried. Otherwise check under the hood make sure inside the distributor cap is dry etc...

I'm going to ignore the first 3 letters of your name.
ArmyRover has it right. How deep did you go? Once you have confirmed you are all dried out. ANd then if it will still not run. Check for spark, check for fuel. Go Sooners!!! ![]() |

I guess it was about 2 feet deep. I didn't get any water inside the cab though. The starter was fried while I was trying to get it to fire again. I'm putting that on tonight and we will see if it fires. The thing I'm worried about is that it went through fine but when I started up the hill on the other side I lost power and couldn't get it going again. Maybe water got in the motor from the air intake? I'll check your suggestions and report back. Thanks guys!
By the way... I'm the good USC. The University of South Carolina!!! |

OH!
Fight On Gamecocks! Okay. I would not expect water to have gotten in the air intake at 2 foot of depth. Unless you were really bookin' it when you hit the water. It's most likely water on the distributor. Were your seals all good on your axles? It might be a good idea to refresh/change the axle fluids. If you got water in there you will have trouble down the road. Let us know what you find on the starting problem. |
