Default Possibly buying a 93 RR LWB

I'm going to look at a 93 RR LWB and was wondering if there are any specific things I should be looking for as far as weak points for this year and model. It has 123,000 miles on it. I am familiar with Land Rovers, I own a 96 RR P38, and a 61 Series II Station Wagon. Thanks!

Wow, nice LR's you have already!

I have a 94' RRC LWB, and I think things to look at are basic stuff, like the notorious failing EAS (Electronic Air Suspension). When I got my RRC, the EAS was removed, except for the controls and reservoir tank, and was replaced with springs. And when I pulled the springs for a lift, the ones I pulled off the truck, were all different sizes, (another story).

123K miles is not bad for a 93', IMO. See if the truck had any service records, to see what has been serviced on it.

But other than the EAS being something that might be a weak point, I dunno what else to point out. Other guys should chime in.

Got any pics of it, by any chance?

I dont know if there's a way to check for 10-spline axles, but you would want to avoid those if you ever plan on putting big tires on it.

i have a '93 lwb. like pat said, check all the fluid and etc. with 123,000 they must have changed (or hope) all the filters and fluids (brake, tran, ant-freeze & etc) i got my rrc w/ 53,000 and the person before never changed the filters and the fluid did not look good. but i had him drop the price down to $5,000 which i think is a good deal for a '93. check under the body (rust & etc) good luck and if u get the rrc take acouple of pic's.

for gods sake, the guy is in NY. RUST RUST RUST. Expect it on the rear tailgate but make sure the floor panels under the mats, and wheelwells aren't rusting through. I bought mine in OH as I was living in Pittsburgh when I made the purchase and part of me wishes I wouldve waited til I made it out west to shop for a RRC. There's always next time... =) Mine isnt rusting terribly but the bottom edge of the lower tailgate is atrting to rust as well as every damned bolt under the truck is more of a pain in the arse than it should be. If you can, get one in a dry state (AZ, CA, NV, NM, ETC) itll be worth taking a flight out there to look at a few.

I bought my Rover from the ski town of Park City and there was no sign of rust. And the roads are salted up here 6months of the year. But I would keep an eye on it. I love the My RRC LWB It's been great but RageRover is right the failing EAS (Electronic Air Suspension) is a problem it never works. When I got my RRC, the EAS was removed, and was replaced with springs. Small springs it looks lower than a stock rover. You'll be better off buying a 2 or 3inch lift (What ever you prefer) to replace the EAS.

As far as rust goes, check the rear crossmember (under the bumper), rear cargo floor (where its spot welded to the body), rear seatbelt mounts, front floors and wheelwells.
Also check under the carpets for moisture.

if u live in a salt winter land like MN, wash the rrc all the time in the winter! i have sun damage on the paint from FL. my rrc was lucky 1st 4 yrs dealers ride in VT then went to FL then to CO and to me in MN and only has a little surface rust on the rear quarter panel. i have alot of clear coat flaking away (sun damage). next month i will get some primer and touch up paint. also that rust fix (can not remember the name) turns rust to black primer helps out. i use that on the inside of the lower tail gate hinges and under the body.

Damn near forgot about the rust...yeah mine had bad rust issues with the hood, which I have to soon replace, and the rear tailgate areas are starting to bubble.

Yeah, moisture in the carpet expecially up front is a real problem sometimes. Mine when it rains, sometimes it would leak on in and get trapped under the floor mat and it would stink, so i end up hitting it with a hair dryer to dry it out, and then unload some Febreeze in there.

pat, so under your carpet in the driver/pass side is getting h2o? is it rusting out or rusted out? were does the leak come in? have u seen the stuff that painters use to dry out rooms before they paint. it is a white powder form or something and they just put some in a room and it soaks up the water. maybe u can use something like that in a small cup? salt...dam...u!!! LOL

I've found that NOT washing it during winter is better for it. Better to leave the salt and crap all frozen solid on it than to turn it into salt water so it flows all through the little nooks and crannies to re-freeze again.
We see a lot fo crusty older Rovers in VT and the ones that are not washed during the winter seem to fare much better.

I hear many reports of "Wash your truck during winter" OR "Don't wash it, it will acclerate the corrosion process", and personally I think at least getting some of the heavier chunks off may help, but once I can't even tell what color the truck was, I think it is time to at least take it to the DIY Car Wash and do a $5 cheap wash. That's just me though, I only had the truck since December, and not much snow fell this winter in the Great Lake State.

Daway, for the most part, it mostly accumulates in the driver's area of carpet, not so much on the passenger side for me. I have not tried that powder stuff that home painters use, I probably don't want to, as it might leave an odor or stain behind, but I dunno, have to try it in my other car as it leaks all the damn time.

And no, my floor boards have not rusted at all, and seem to hold up nicely!

The only thing I notice rusting on the floor are those small screws that hold in the trim on the rocker panel.

good thought. i have heard of cars that r in heated garages getting rust on them faster because of the heat melting the frozen salt and snow.

pat sorry, i meant to put that powder in a cup or something so it does not get all over. let me know if u try it. i have seen painters put it on a piece of plastic in the middle of the room and then rap up the plastic.
