A quart of oil every 2500 miles is nothing to be concerned about. I remember when I bought my first new BMW, a 1983 320iS, I was concerned that I needed to put almost a quart of oil in the car every 3000 miles. I was shown a BMW service bulletin by a tech that stated that oil consumption should only be considered excessive if more that a quart is burned every 800 miles! Oil consumption on the order you're seeing should be the least of your concerns.

my rrc has the LR oil drip option. i think since i have changed the oil i had to put in a qt or so (jan, 6 month about 2,800 since last change) . i have a drip around the drain plug. i will change the oil this wkend and i got a new drain plug and will try lucas oil stabilizer w/ 20w/50 castrol. the brit's never made good gaskets or seals. sounds like a good deal and u can get the records at the dealer. have them print them out for you and u can do a vin # back check online.

I would say if its a 95 classic, with EAS and the new dash it is a deal and a half.. especially with those miles.. I would pay that if it had double the miles... well If I didn't have the beast, but those are rare and desireable.. its a deal..

About the oil consumption, I put 3000 miles between oil changes on mine, and when I check the oil alond the way, it has never dropped, and no signs of consumption?
![]() It has one of those dry leaks, or at least had one, at the rear of the block, around the main seal I think. But the oil level on the dipstick, has not dropped to where I needed to add a quart? On the other hand, on my mom's 86' Benz 420 SEL, it ended up comsuming in 3000 miles a bunch of oil, to the point where I needed to, at one time, add 2 quarts of oil. Engine runs perfectly, despite a tiny exhaust leak on the Benz, the size of a pin hole, it runs fine.

Well, my original thread went off on a tangent. I went to look at that 93 LWB with 123,000 miles. The EAS is shot, so it needs a coil conversion, the hood was held down with two bungee cords that went over the front fender. Had a dent and scratches on the right rear door, all the plastic exterior parts were either cracked or gone, the name Range Rover did not appear on the rear tailgate, or the hood, the inside was beyond filthy, things were taped together with black electrical tape, the rear seat backs were not attatched, the rear tailgate didn't shut completely, the front drivers seat was totally ripped, the engine compartment was ok, but the coolant tank was very low. Peered into the oil fill hole, and it was brown which is ok. Started right up, and sounded good, but at that point was turned off by the whole thing because of how dirty, and neglected it was. The steering column actually had black electrical tape wrapped around it. He's asking $3,200 for it, I was thinking about offering him $1,000, but decided I didn't need another project. Any opinions?

$500 not a penny more.
Are You planning on spending the thousands and thousands of dollars it will take to get this heap even close to road worth? Buy it cheap and part it out. If it's as trashed as you say it's barely worth that. People always like to say that "the engine is good so it's worth something!" Yeah, right. I have two 3.9L engines that were in perfect running order that I can't give away. Need a tranny, I have three. Want a transfer case, got several of those too. Body parts? I could be a Rover from scratch. Save your money AND your time and look for a real Rover. |

Good advice Paul. I'll wait until I find a good condition classic. In the mean time, I'll enjoy driving my 96 P38, and continue restoring my 61 series II 109 station wagon. Still want to add a RR classic to my collection someday.
