Question Power steering Box Replacement

Hi
This board and is full of a wealth of information for me. I am going to replace my leaking power steering box 1994 LWB; I have looked at AB steering box with pitman arm and a rebuilt box with upgraded bushings from Meridian Auto Sports. I am concern with AB quality my most recent experience is getting 13 months from a water pump before it started leaking I have replaced it with a genuine LR water pump 6 months ago so far no leaks. In 2005 replaced fuel pump and sending unit after installing the unit my gas gauge is giving an inaccurate fuel tank level reading the needle is not at the full level on the gauge even when my tank is full and reads empty when there is still about 7 gallons in the tank I don’t know if this has any thing to do with the new sending unit. They sent out a new sending unit but this did not fix the problem, spoke with a LR service guy who told me the pump and sending unit sold byAB has this problem due to it’ design I was unable to verify this, But any way back to my main question I am thinking of getting the box from Meridian Auto Sports, if any one has used their re built box please let me know how it worked out

First, I have had pretty good results with AB, but for a poor heater core last week. It was Britpart, thus the poor quality, and looked as though it crossed the ocean in a container of stones. I suppose it was bound to happen.

In this case, I would just buy the box from Meridian. I have a Meridian box, and it has been leak free and functional for near two years. They give a good warranty and I am satisfied with their product.

+1 on the Meridian box. 3 years & no leaks. Hoses are another story, consider replacing them at the same time. Pitman arm can be on there really tight. A strong puller (rent from Autozone) & a MAPP or oxy-acetylene torch. Will likely burn out the old box's seal, watch for smoke & flames.

Pitman arm rebuild kits are a good thing to install while you're in there. A pipe nipple & "C" clamp over the tapered stud will compress it enough to get the snap ring out.

One thing you might want to check is the u-joints on the steering shaft. If you have a hard spot when you turn the steering wheel, you may have a u-joint issue.

After I installed my new steering shaft. I had that too.
SO I loosened the bolts and gave the wheel a spin. The point where it caught adjusted and it quit.
