I accidentally left the gear selector in 3rd, got on the freeway and drove it for a good 25 minutes (spaced out with Saturday errands and too busy). Noticed the tach was at 3500 after a good 30 miles, and dropped it into 4th. Out of curiosity I ran the engine up to 3500 in 4th and it could barely reach 90 mph. Just wondering how much life I took out of the engine by running it that hard.
1989 Range Rover--stock tires, stock everything (automatic)
30 miles at 3500 not prolonged particularly in 3rd. Less load on engine than 3500/90 in 4th pushing more air. Doubt any life missing and may have helped clean it out.

Sounds like it is going to be OK. Good luck. Please give us an update in a few months.
