Default Purchasing 95 LWB RR

Hello,

I was looking at purchasing a 95 LWB RR with 116K. The asking price is $5500.00. I was thinking of offering 3500 and no more than 4000. I wanted to ask the folks that own RR what I should look at when purchasing this fine truck.

Being the former owner of a Disco I kinda know some things.

Maintenance Records
Head gaskets
Rust
Leaks ( like I don’t know the answer already)

Do the drive shafts go bad like the do in Discos?

Any advise would be helpful.

it's pretty much all the same except for the ugly little demon of air suspension on the RRC and I don't know if the rear outer seatbelt anchor bolt area rusts out on the disco. Check the hatch as well.

Ditto Army. My LR mechanic tells me RRC are more reliable then Disco's for the exception of the air suspension. I am planning on getting a Disco 98 very soon

Ok I finally drove the rover.

The good:

The body is in good shape (little rust)
Runs and drives good
Everything seems to work.

The not so good:

The SRS light is on
There is also a yellow light on in the center of the consol not sure what it is. It looks like a leveling light maybe??

While driving, I kept hearing a sound from the right rear (sounded like a loud pump). Do these have more than one pump? The guy selling stated he put a high performance pump and bigger bags in the back.

The engine idled a little rough at start up, but seemed to smooth out after driving.

What is the normal driving height of the air suspension? The truck seemed low, but I could raise it will it was parked.

In addition, the guy selling it is a mechanic and he specializes European Cars. He said he did not have the tools to turn off the lights that were on. (but he works on them all the time)

With all of this said he is asking $5200.00. I was thinking 2500 to 3000.

Do these issues seem worth it, because I may have to live in it? (quoted from the wife)

The suspension compressor is on the outside of the frame, right side...about mid-ship...it's enclosed in a steel "box". The air tank is across the way on the left side.

Mine has been converted to coil suspension, but still retains all of the equipment...but that's about all the help I can give...however I don't think the pump should run continuously.

I paid $1800 for a 94 LWB with a blown tranny, dying tranfer case and 80k miles...everything else works great...interior perfect (minus the headliner)...couple rust spots on the tailgate and hood...so $5000 sounds a little high to me.

The SRS light could be on because it was never reset at 100k miles - needs to be reset with dealer tools. Once done, all is well unless a fault appears. Yellow light in cetner of console for a '95 is a mystery to me - the air suspension buttons are on the center of the dash, lower left from the radio. If the center one of those is illuminated, the EAS is manually disabled. I forget the measurement for the "normal" height but it shouldn't rise noticably from a startup unless there's a leak. If it looks "low" it could very well be. Many people convert the EAS to coils - $300 or so and move on. I still have my EAS w/140k+ miles.
You did check for rust behind/under the aluminum exterior body panels, right?

Does the yellow light look like wheel and fender? That's on the 95 only, and it indicates an EAS fault.
