Default range rover dealership

Hello again....i know the unwritten rule of STAY AWAY FROM THE DEALER AT ALL COST...but it is a good idea to go straight to the parts department and inquiry about a mechanic who moonlights after hours.... right now I found an independant garage, but a friend of mine who use to have a D1 had a guy at the dealership who did just that and she saved a lot of money....she bought the parts and he would put it in...she told me to do the same..so i am asking you pros..is that wise or am I going to get that tech to lose his job.

he'll get canned for sure. Go to a dealer and ask a mechanic to moonlight and they will tell you to leave in a very inpolite manner with a few obsenities mixed in there. If you happened to run into a dealership mechanic and ask him directly, you could get away with it but don't ask around at the dealership. That's like saying to them, I need work done on my truck and I want your highly qualified staff to do it but I don't want to pay you guys anything. They won't take kindly to that offer.
