So last night I head into the garage to grab a few things for the wife and I drop a roll of paper towels. They roll over against the rear wheel of the parts RRC. As a lean down to grab them through the open center of the rim I notice that the axle cover is missing and I can see the end of the shaft. I start to stand up when it dawns on me that there seem to be more than 10 splines on this end of the axle. I count them and end up with 24 (yes I did have to take my shoes off and unzip my fly to count that high).
So the question is would that be evidence of a 24 spline set up? I 95% sure I know the answer I just want to confirm it before I do the happy dance!

So what you are saying is that the drive member was off the rear wheel and you could see the outer end of the rear axle, correct? All the ABS equipped RRC's had 24 splines at the drive members. It's the inner spline count that matters when you're figuring out what diffs you have. My bet is you have 10 splines at the diff. I have never seen a 24 spline rear (at the diff) with removable drive members. Every 24 spline rear axle I have ever seen from the factory was a one piece deal with the drive member permanently attached to the half shaft.

If the drive flange has been removed, the axle should just come straight out. So you can pull it out and have a look.
After market axles have drive flanges on 24 spline axles. |
