anyone know of a supplier for a 2" receiver for the front of a '90 rrc? I have been looking at the winch setups that mount to a plate that mates with the hitch... I have seen these on xj's before...I just don't want to mount my winch on the front, then when I get stuck...pull myself deeper into the mess... this way I can pop in the the front or in the rear....

Yes expensive, and too low. if you need to use it for a winch mount, it will get hung up on everything and ruin you app angle. A receiver is just a 2" square tubing. Make it yourself or have a welding/fabrication shop do it for you, you may be supprised at how little it could cost.

Usual place to get stuck is on a hill or in a mud hole. On a hill you have to get out and get the thing out of the back. When you open the rear doors, everything falls out. Stuck in a mud hole, you have to wade into the mud hole to get to the back to get it out. Then have to open rear door and you let the mud into the car. Then have to wade back into the mud at the front. You then have to find the reciever in the mud (most likely full of mud by now), thry and fit the winch. Ooops, drop the pin in the mud and can't find it. Then have to find the plug to connect the power, etc, etc. |

You will loose forward traction well before you get to the worse part of most show stopping situations, so generally, the best way out is back the way you came. A removable winch is better used on the back end than the front end. They can make a great land plow on steep ascents, so don't put it on till you need it.

Ironic you bring this up about XJ's.... What I am doing to the fiances Jeep for a front recovery etc is buying a hitch from the scrap steel place(where you pay so many cents per pound) and Building all the brackets etc ... that way I have a true 2" reciever and I will make a front bumper with it so as not to lose clearence! Just a thought!! If you buy one that is bolt on it really kills approach angle... Also of you do mud a lot when you get stuck and want out the reciever will be full of crap you have to clean out before you even get a winch in there!! I understand wanting 1 winch for front and rear though!! But call arounf to junk/scrap yards for hitches.. Then build a bumper and that is part of it!
