Question Red Brake Light

This seems odd...a week ago, I replaced rear pads, cause they were severely worn with just a smidge of material left on the pads. Rotors are perfect though, no blemishes and no glazing.

So a week goes by, and in between, I did a lot of off roading, some of which took me through a lot of water, including a mini pond.

After pulling out of the wet wheelin' area, the red Brake light came on, I thought I had left the E-Brake on, but no. I drove around for awhile, and brakes worked perfectly, no screeching, or anything like that, I looked at the brake pad wear sensors, and all were still connected.

I unplugged one of them, and the light turned off, but I knew that doesn't fix nothing.

What else should I look for? Brake fluid is still at level, as a matter of fact, I flushed out the system with new stuff a week after getting back from MRM.

It may sound dumb, but did you check your brake fluid after the abs pump pressurized the system? I would clear the code and see if it pops up again. Also, does your car have the little light up code display that mounts next to your ECU? I don't know if it is helping at all, but. Those are my ideas

Yes, I did, and the reservoir is at level, and the pedal is still stiff, like it was before.

Yes there is an LCD display for numbers only, next to the computer under the passenger front seat. It shows no codes though.

Another thing, the light tends to flicker, dim to off, then to bright then dim.

I am stumped. I have no idea why the light is still on.

If you unplugged the pad sensor and the light went out, then you found the problem. My rear one got ripped off a few years back, but thats fine. Just unplug it.

The only other reason that light would come on is if there's low pressure in the system.

Low pressure as in air in the system right?

If that is the case, and yes I unplugged the pad sensors, on my system, how do I go about bleeding the brakes?

The system just seems odd, as there is two brake lines on calipers up front.

I don't buy the low pressure idea, if it were low, you wouls also have a low soft brake pedal. With the engine on, go pull the top of the brake flui resevor and move the float up and down to see if the light goes off, they can fail.
There should be a pressure switch in the barke system, some where near the master cylinder, it may have also failed.

The red flickering light can indicate low or near low pressure problem...remember these RRCs have that wacky ABS pump setup.

I had the same issue last year and I replaced the ABS accumulator and did a full system bleed.

Well, I haven't noticed a soft pedal yet.

The accumulator is that annoying electronic motor sound I hear when I first turn the key to on right?

If it is, I know where it is.

Sven, on yours, when you said it lost pressure, was that because the ABS accumulator lost its ability to pump?

Of course there is that, I think a three wire, sensor on the cap of the master cylinder. If I can get specs on that, I can test the sensor.

Also, I just remembered this just now, last winter, when I first got the truck, the red Brake light would do the same thing it was doing now, although, not as frequent in flickers. But last winter when the light did flicker, it was more of a "Full" On, and Completely "Off" light, like it would flicker bright and immediately go out when I hit a bump in the road. And this is the same thing it is doing now, but with a dimmer light.

EDIT: Nevermind about the accumulator, I just found out what it is. That little sphere shaped thing in the tight space next to the master cylinder.
