Default Reinstalling Distributor

Like a true weekend mechanic, I removed my distributor before marking its position in order to replace the front cover gasket.

Well, the gasket is done and I am putting my 95 LWB back together.

Can anyone provide a step by step process to line everything back up so the timing is at least close enough to start the rig and get it to a mechanic who has a timing gun in order to fine tune it?

Thanks,

ChamplainRover

Find your timing mark on the crank pulley and line it up with the indicator, remove #1 spark plug and verify piston is at top dead center (TDC) reinstall spark plug and wire. Find #1 wire on distributor cap, and mark distributor base where #1 is. Install distributor with rotor pointing at #1 mark. Tighten down distributor and reinstall cap. If it doesn't start, Bring #1 piston back up according to crank mark. Check position of rotor, and remove and reinstall distributor exactly 180 degrees from 1st position. Set timing with light.

Bwana,

I did, and I thank you for the help. I put the distributor back in and it didn't start, so I pulled it out, turned the gear 180 degrees, put it back in, then was able to start it.

Took it to a garage and got it timed, and she's running great!

Thanks again for your initial response and for following up.
