removing sunroof questions - Land Rovers Only

Have the interior completely gutted.

Had some water in the front floor boards so looking at various things including the sunroof

My front drains were cut right as they exited the a pillar.. i was able to reach back under the decker / cowl and tape an extension tube and just run it out the side of the hood for now..

i sent water down the front drains and it came out fine..

i blew some air up the back drain tubes from the wheel well end.. i send water down the back drains and nothing comes out..

the drains are too far back to see.. so i was thinking about dropping the sun roof to clean them.

???????
1. how heavy is the sun roof?
2. if i remove the various bolts around the edge of the sun roof will it come down and i access the rear drains?
3. are there any seals that i risk making the sun roof leak if i take the sun roof down?
4. depending on weight.. do u think i can tie ropes from one side of the roof to the other to act as a support to rest the run roof on while i clean the rear drains??

From what I hear alot of the "water up front" problems are from crappy windsheild seals/installs...so check that out.

Also...sunroof removal has been discussed at length recently...search for sunroof or headliner.

sunroof / ac drains / windshield / seam under decker / various firewall grommets

ya i searched.. didnt see anything about weight..
i saw one person said they let the sun roof hang from the drain tubes..
sir mix alot says: i aint down with that.

nor did i see anything about.. people removing theirs and then having worse problems due to a seal getting moved around.

i suppose ill just do it and deal with what occurs

yeah check the windsheild for leaking...mine leaks after being in the rain for a while...it is coming into the interior from the corners, I can see where it trickles down behind the kick panel...I plan on painting before long and will attck it then

1. It's kinda heavy if I remember correctly. The front seat headrests will keep it from traveling too far once removed.

2. sorry I can't remember that.

3. Sure the seal around the metal roof. just be careful with it. If you look at the design any water coming in should go out in the drain tubes.

4. I thought you could access the drains without removing it. Just roll it back and look in the corners. But in any case you are going to blow some air down there to clear them and with the interior gutted do you not see the hoses on the sunroof?

Sorry I wish I could be more helpful. But overall it's kinda heavy maybe 60-75 (can anyone confirm or deny that?) pounds maybe more.

You can access the drain tubes by just removing the headliner. There are plastic clamps that hold the to tubes to the drains. Once you've removed the clamps you can remove the tubes from the drains and blow compressed air down them to hopefully clear them of any blockage.

The sunroof is very heavy, very awkward and really requires an extra set of hands to avoid doing any damage.

maybe ill wait till i have an extra body around here.
though i dont see how to get those clamps off without wrecking them.
note to self.. using a gun cleaning rod with patches doesnt work very well

The sunroof is mad heavy. Well worth having a second set of hands. Once its out, along w/ the headliner, it'll be easy to clean out the drain tubes and/or replace the seals. Just take your time and follow the shop manual if you have one.

You have to push the two ends apart laterally, if that makes any sense. Grab the clamp with two hands and and the ends slide apart. They are tricky and can break the end of the drain so be careful.

ya ended up figuring it out..
i guess when working at night.. have more that just a street light.

i used a small nail set / punch.. and taped high and low.. worked smooth.
