You are right, it is the camel trophy type, not exactly a replica to its full extent.

I say paint the rims sandglow like the rest of the body, thats how they did it in CT but it's your truck. Also while your working on the body and such why not go with 3' exhaust tubing for a snorkel with a mantec or safari head, like alan bates did on his RRC. It looks really good, you can see it at rockrover.com under tech articles at the bottom of the page. But to each his own. Have you though about making a custom CT style roofrack? Hope the paint turns out well

I think it's a pretty cool idea painting it like a Camel. Instead of painting the tire lettering, why not just get them remounted so the white letters are on the inside?

I kinda agree with Hank at some point...but take my opinion in lighter note if you please.

the CT trucks are such nice vehicles and it wouldn't be nice for me to see a "replica" without the complete details, the bull bar, the tires, you name it...I've never seen the Classic version..I think it was even before the Land Rover Years in CT...before '94..correct me if I'm mistaken though..

but if you're ONLY going to PAINT it sandglow..than it's not a problem though..it's understandable since like Ryan mentioned, some of the parts aren't available anymore...and it's gonna blow your bank LOL

that's my .02

but props to you since you're doing all the job yourself and good luck.

Camel trophy started in 1980 with 3 Jeeps... in 1981 they started utilizing Range Rovers, 83 it was the Series III 88", 84-89 defenders [87 in madagascar they used RRs], 90-97 was Discoveries, and 1998 they used freelanders.. They did one in 2000 using hondas, with d110 as support vehicles [which were generally support vehicles throughout the event].

Heres a great page on it.. ableit in Spanish: http://www.cameltrophy.es/cameltrophy_RangeRover.htm

..you did say to correct you if you were mistaken

Get someone at a good pipe bending shop to make you the correct bull bar. Look around for the old style steel rims too. Using the wrong stuff on a truck just painted Sandglow will just make it look like so many other attempts, which, improperly done, don't do the truck justice. Personally, I love Red SWB rangies.

Especially since they only used Range Rovers in 1981,82, and 87.

That's a brave color man.

If your goin for the color I say go all out with CT stuff like rack, brushbar, maybe even int. cage like they had. Did any of yall see that RRC on ebay a while back that was a camel type replica, they had some rovertym bumpers on it, but the rack looked like the real thing and was equipped like they would have done it My 0.02

Default Camel

Looking forward to seeing the finished paint job - I've never seen "Sand Glow" in person... Keep posting the pictures.

We still need to meet up. I dug out the Mantec cap and have it on the work bench. If you haven't seen it I have the book "Camel Trophy: The Great Adventure" covering 1980-1993. Great travel photography and Rover shots. Let me know if you want to see it and I'll bring it.
