Default Seeing if there is any interest in this.

My dad owns a 1989 Range Rover Class SWB and we have been upgrading things as we go. One of the things that I am working on now is the center console. The original console was made of cardboard and plastic and really can't survive very much. I am in the process of building him a new one made of composites (with cup holders) that can withstand a little abuse without breaking.

Here are my questions, If you could change anything with the center console in your Range Rover Classic, what would it be? How many people would be interested in a aftermarket, composite console?

The console is going to be mostly the same shape and design as the origional, except cupholders will be installed, composite construction for moisture resistance and a structural increase over the OEM part, the window and lock switches are being replaced with illuminated, sealed, push button switches.

Thanks all around for any information you all can provide.

Shawn, try posting up some of your design sketches. Then the RRC owners can give you some constructive (I hope) criticism. lol. Sounds like a good idea. But from a design perspective, it's easier for an existing owner to give you ideas based on something they see. Good luck with the endeavour.

I am going to post some pics of the plug that I have made to build the glass on soon. I hope to be ready for glass by tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.

sounds like a good idea. take a look at other center console options for other landy models, it'd be nice to make a new console based off of another model car just in the design cues.

Thanks "J",

I haven't been able to find many options when I comes to center consoles. Please, if anyone knows of center console manufactures for the RRC then pass them on.

I paid $600 dollars to have one made by a place in Australia.

Car Consoles & 4WD Storage Drawers - Department of the Interior - overhead consoles, roof consoles, custom built consoles, 4WD interiors, dashboard restorations, storage systems, vehicle consoles, radio console, dashboard repairs, dashboard pod, four

There is a market!

my personal taste leans more toward keeping the stock appearance, although those are some pretty nice consoles in the link Elemental sent.

i took my stock console and cut steel bars to reinforce the cheap plastic parts. replaced the switches with ones that look stock but are illuminated. made a new cubby box liner bc the original one was broken and wouldn't fit in now that i had reinforced the console. attached discovery 2 grey cup holders - made little hidden wooden pieces that fit underneath the cup holders and level out the bottoms, then screwed them into the console through that wood piece. all the wiring still fits, the heater hoses to the 2nd row still fit, etc. pics are at my thread 'interior re-do.'

i think there is a market for console replacements as long as you can provide a range from cheap/basic ones on up.

Actually, the pictures suck. The console I got matched the color perfectly, and looked like it belonged in the car. It was like a stock one on steriods. It was a bunch of money, but worked great.....
