Default serious vibrations!

I'm still new to the rover scene, but I have been reading and searching all of the forums. My new rangie started to have a little vibration at 70mph last week, now I feel it all through the driving range. It is pretty bad at 70, but when I let off the gas it goes away. It seems to be coming from the floor and my passengers say it's worse on their side. I checked the driveshafts for any play and they were tight, so I'm tentatively ruling out the u-joints. I know the front end needs rebuilding, because it wanders and the steering wheel shakes when I hit bumps. I've heard people say the rotoflex can cause vibrations, but I dont see any rubber joint on the rear shaft. It's been raining and cold lately so I haven't been able to check all of the fluids, could it be the transfer case or diffs?

Sorry for being long-winded,
Brad

Yeah it does sound like a drive train issue. Check your U-joints, cause they are the points under most stress, especially under load from the engine. I had the same vibe you described awhile back, and after topping off the U-Joints up with some grease, the vibe was no more. But soon after I replaced them anyways.

Check ALL of your front suspension components for wear and play. I had a very serious shake that sounds similair to yours.. Replaced both tie rod ends (both were bad), panhard rod bushings, steering damper and all my shocks. It all needed to be replaced and from what I could gather with the help of another local RR owner is that the shakes would start from road vibration and then echo through the whole front suspension since there was so much room for play. Once I slowed down or stopped the shakes would as well. I no longer have he shakes (like I'm some sort of junkie or something, LOL). Sorry for the long wind as well..

By the way, what part of Texas are you in? I'm in S.A. and there are a few other Rover owners that I've had the pleasure of meeting that are very helpful.

I'm going to guess it's your u-joints. If you get underneath the truck and grab your drive shaft, see if you can move it at all. They may not be bad enough to feel yet, but that's usually a good indicator.

Let's hope that's what it is. Fairly easy fix.

EDIT: I just reread and it sounds like you might have a bigger problem if you've already checked your drive shafts.
