Exclamation Transmission Temp. Light...

The truck is now giving me crap...now about the transmission temperature.

IMO I think the indicator lamp on my truck is false, but I could very well be wrong. Just today, a few hours ago. I washed the truck, top to bottom and even in the engine bay. Now when I let everything dry up, I took it for a spin, and right as the motor started the tranny temp light came on VERY faintly, and then she became fully illuminated when I took off. The truck wasn't even up to operating temp.

I pulled over and put her in neutral and checked the level of the fluid, and she was good, and the fluid was still red, and no where near scalding hot. Took her around the town for a few miles, thinking the light would correct it self. Nope...I took her right home, with no abnormal shifting, no noises, nothing. I disconnected the neg. batt. cable to see if that was the problemo. No dice.

I again pulled the dipstick, and the fluid level was right where it was, no leaks, and this time the fluid was much warmer, but not scalding hot, and the truck was at operating temp. The RAVE CD I got doesn't even list a trans. temp. sensor anywhere, and I know there has to be one for the light on the instrument cluster to come on. Where is this tranny temp. sensor at? Is it on one of the cooler lines? Is it on the transmission case somewhere? Also is it possible that these sensors can go bad? Remember, I washed the whole truck, including the motor.

I need some help fast, and I really need to find a solution to this. That red tranny temp. light is awfully intimidating. Plus I pray there is nothing wrong with the tranny itself, I really do not wanna have to pull it and rebuild it or some shit like that.

Thanks guys.

On my 1995 there were 2 sensors. One on the Transmission and one along the lines to the trans oil cooler. One of mine failed like yours... with cold fluid but light on.

Someone will be along with exact locales.

You may also have a bad spot on one of the wires and it is now wet causing the light to come on.It may correct it self with a little driving.

I drove it a little bit last night, after letting sit for the day, and she seemed fine. Got it down the road, the light came back on. I drove it a little more, the light started to dim out and then remained on. I drove it to a friend's house, and checked the temp. of the ATF, and it was just like the other nights I checked it, just warm, not scalding hot.

Also, I do not think I am supposed to have continuity on both wires to the sensor on the trans cooler line, that would link to ground. I unplug this sensor and the light goes and stays off.

I am not sure what to do just yet, as it has me worried to drive it. I am going to try and remedy this today, so I will be around online. Thanks guys.
