So, today I was just checking the truck out, making sure it is ready for a voyage to TN. And as I shut the upper tailgate the weather stripping started to sag on the right side, and it looks like a metal peice came off with it. It appears that the metal peice was rivetted onto the frame of the upper tailgate.
What do you guys recommend doing to repair this random ordeal? Cause now I have to tuck the weather stripping up as I shut the upper tailgate. It is a real pain in the ass to have to do that.

I dunno what kinda of glue to use, as, the tailgate is rather dirty, and corroded.

Pics? If it's getting that corroded you may have to bite the bullet and get an upper tailgate kit or find a good used one.

I'll get pics up if I can. But the tailgate still has solid metal. It's just the surface rust is what made the weather stripping fall off. I looked closer and the stripping is held to a peice of metal, probably bonded, and that metal peice is riveted to the frame of the upper tailgate. Could possibly be that all the shutting and opening the rivet's simply broke.

You can get the metal mounting strip and seal from Rovers North.
Mines done the same thing. I cleaned, coated it with rust prevention spray, and then sealed it with black silicone. It's worked so far.

Thanks Kevin, yeah, it finally fell off earlier this evening at Walmart. So for the time being there is no weather stripping back there. I'll order one from Rovers North.
How did you remount the new one? Rivet it in, or something else? I too will clean up the rusty metal frame and paint it over, probably along with the rest of the tailgate, as there are some corners starting to surface rust.

You need a replacement tailgate. Here's how to do it.

Yeah, sorry to say but the surface rust is coming from the otherside. May still feel solid, but these rust from the inside out.
