Default using regular instead of primium gas, anyone here doing it

i have been using primium gas in my 1995 county lwb, and at the pump the other day, i met a guy filling his 1993 with regular. he said that that was all he ever used, and never had a problem.

anyone else here running regular? any problems? here in south carolina, that would be a $6.00 difference every tank.

I used only regular until I heard on LRO to use Premium. To tell the truth, I didn't see much improvement if any. Maybe cause it was high altitude.

Now I use to have a 89 Mustang GT, that one I would see a big difference.

I think using premium is like cheap insurance. 87 Octane will retard the timing and possibly make the engine knock. I think in an emergency you could use 87 but my nerves would be on edge for the whole tankful and I would be as gentle on the throttle as possible. I've thought of buying some octane booster and leaving it in the Diso Just in case, but I've never put anything but peremium in it so far and don' t plan to.

i stick to LR guide line 90 or above. i tried it once and my dad tried it in his rrc and we could feel the change and what i have read it's bad in the long run (over time). also it only 20 cents or so for a rover that is one of the cheapest parts to them LOL!

Isn't your truck an '88? The 87-88 are designed to run on regular, and 89+ are designed for premium.

I have been running regular in mine for who knows how long. But I have tried premium, and noticed no difference. Besides, the easier it ignites, the happier my 3.9 is going to be.

I use 87 octane and have never seen any problems with it.

In my 1994 disco i can tell a big difference, the gas milliege drops and the engine runs really noisy... not to mention carbon build up gets worse when u use a lower octane....premuim is the way to go

i ran nothing but regular in my 93 and it made it to 255k.

in my 95 LWB i run premium because i get better gas mileage to where it actually makes sense to use. out here in CO regular is 85. =/

I've used regular unleaded the whole time I've had my Classic. In the last year+ and 13,000 miles I've had no problem.

Here's a good article about the octane myth:
http://www.muddyoval.com/articles/ge...nfo/octane.htm

I used to run premium in my '97 D90, but only because it was supercharged and the detonation (pinging) could have potentially damaged the engine. Other that that vehicle, I've only ever run regular and never had any issues.
The worst part is that if you condition your engine to run premium, you're stuck running it and can't switch back.

Regards,
Art Vigil
