Howdy,
First post here, I'm the new owner of a 93 County this guy, I procured it on Thursday from a very nice fella who had another project he'd rather work on. It's in pretty decent condition, only 2 areas that are actually rusted, and ran great originally. It only has driving issue that just started today, and although doesn't majorly effect me at the moment, I have a feeling it could become an issue. Up until today it ran strong and shifted smoothly with no issues. Starting today, if the pressure to the gas pedal/accelerator is very light it behaves somewhat strangely. From a stop, accelerating (again very lightly), every 10mph or so it seems as if the fuel cuts temporarily, the RPMs instantly drop about 1000 and then jump right back to where they were, which creates a decent surge. Once at speed, if you're 'coasting' and apply very light gas it's much worse, the RPMs don't visibly surge (according to the tach), but it's very noticeable in the cabin. Applying half throttle or full 'kick down' from a stop or already at speed completely bypasses this issue. That said, I popped the hood and only saw one thing that looked definitely not okay, I'm not that mechanically inclined (one of the reasons I wanted a RRC, besides LOVING the old body style, I figured it would force me to learn enough to work on it). So, what is this? and could it be the cause of this problem? if not, any ideas? Thanks in advance! |

That would be part of your cruise control. No worries there!

I have had no problems running 87 octane...but you could have picked up a tank of gas that's contaminated...usually with water. You could try adding some "dry gas" to your tank...it's cheap enough at $2-$3 for a bottle and it might solve your problem. But I don't know if that's your problem.
I once got a tank of bad gas while on a trip to Asheville, NC with my Suburban...I lost major power on uphill grades with a weird surging/stutering. My first thought was oh S**T there goes my transmission...however on closer examination I began to think bad gas...so I dropped 2 bottles of dry gas in and filled up with 93 oct...problem cured.

Yes...Army's correct anytime you suspect fuel contamination change the fuel filter too.
