I'm in Pa, thanks for all the great advice. I have to check my setting I haven't been getting reply notices.

Well the 95 is gone. I'm working on a dealer owned 90 Green he says its rare? Seems eager and willing to meet me half way. has all the dealer reciepts. We'll see, I hope to look at it this week.

Boy, these things don't book what the going rate seems to be?

Please understand I've had a toyota landcruiser for the past 4 years. I must say I've grown attached to them. Finding a FJ80 in my price range is a dificult task. The jeeps don't do it for me except for the fullsize rigs and nice ones are far and few between. s10's spoders and the like seem like throwaway vehicles to me. The xj's tempted me.

I've alway's had a love for the RR's and LC's Champagne taste schlits budget. The wife would allow me to get a more expensive vehicle but I'm so finicky I wouldn't trust myself to keep a high dollar rig.

I don't mind tinkering. and I realize parts my be an issue. Are we talking major down times or an unreliable vehicle in the range rover?? Or just needs tlc?

thanks folks,

bob

Hi Norville, I was in your position about 6 months ago. I can tell you you made a wise decision to join this forum. These boys know their Rovers. I really think you are making another wise choice in buying a Rover as well. My wife and I really liked Land Rovers and were actually looking at Discos because we thought we wouldn't find or couldn't afford a Range Rover. We looked at several and came to the same conclusion as the rest of these guys and bought the nicest one we could find. We found a '93 LWB with 89k miles and unbelievably clean for $3500. We couldn't believe our luck, we bought it on the spot! We love it. So far it has been perfectly reliable. I had all fluids and filters changed per the advice of these guys. For now it is my wife's daily driver. We already agree that we plan to keep it forever, pass it along to my son or, if I'm allowed, take her off road. By the way, this one already had the air suspension replaced with coil springs. A very wise move, so I understand. It also has the 4.2 liter engine which is fairly peppy. I had heard that the 4.0 liter may be more troublesome, maybe stick with the 3.9 or 4.2. Hope my amateur advise helps.

Just keep looking for the best one.

Did you read this specifically to find what you'd be happy with?

http://www.rangerovers.net/modelspecs/

Avoid ABS if you can (I have not managed to do this), Get everything you can (modifications) already done if done well, it's much cheeper. I waited 4 years for a friend to sell his 1992 while I slowly built my 1995. When it popped up for sale I jumped because I knew the history and could keep my other one or sell it later.

Is there a local Land Rover club you can get in touch with? Get to know them, go to the meetings. Take your time!

The 91 I'm looking at is a "hunter" model. Any real reason I should pass on this model. Seems more of a base model. no sway bars, sunroof , abs ect.. Is this good or bad.

thanks Thor for the link

The hunter is what you want if you want to have a good off-road rig with less electronics, I personally have a 1988 RRC for my trail truck I know that eventually I will need to upgrade the axles alot, I might try getting some 24 spline axles out of a LWB.

That is what I have, Personally i think it is the way to go.....You don't have near the problems..... It depends on what you want. There is no ABS, sway bars, etc... Just core!!! It has been AWSOME to say the least....... Just when it comes time to replace brake pads you need the ABS style pads.. even though there is o ABS!!! Would you like a few pics?

When looking for a RRC trail truck for me It was either a hunter, or an 88'. I'm happy that the 88's pretty simple and I don't have to replace expensive sensors. Plus my 3.5 seems to be bulletproof

Nice shots! the first link needs a password. I'm a 1/10 of the way though the second.

The hunter I'm looking at has all the reciepts maintenence from the RR dealer. It has a 134K garage kept and $4000 firm. Ive seen cheaper but are usually further away or not as nice.

thoughts??

you're going to pay extra for a 'Hunter' becaue it is rare, like a Defender. Can you get a LR shop/dealer to go over it?

Also, what does $4000 mean to you.... will you eat still?... or will you hardly notice it?
