My 91 RR Classic was involved in a rollover accident in which it was flipped onto its roof. When it flipped, the motor shutdown but the ignition was not turned off for a number of minutes. Now I have the Rover back at my place and am planning of chopping the top and install a rollcage as the truck appears to have suffered only structural damage. When I fire it up however, the motor runs for about 15 seconds and shuts down. I can restart it immediately with the same result. Does anyone know what could be wrong? I'd greatly appreciate any help as this is the only obstacle preventing me from beginning my project.

Maybe a fuel blockage and it can only get through enough fuel to let it idle for a short time. When it cuts out a small amount of fuel continues to come through and builds up enough to run again for a short while. It's a theory anyhow.

Huh, thats interesting. Does it stutter before it dies? Try pressing the throttle just after startup - engines have what is called idle air bypass which lets air into the engine when the throttle body is closed. sometimes its a valve and sometimes it is a hole in the butterfly valve, but if its plugged the engine could start but not continue to idle.
P76rangie might be on to something too, could be fuel pressure - not sure if the fuel pump on the range rover needs top be primed? Maybe in the roll over much of the fuel drained out of the line and it is not getting a consistant supply, in which case starting it a number of times and trying to rev it should help pull fuel up the lines from the tank. Finally there isn's anything stuck in the exhaust pipe, like dirt or something, right? High back pressure from the exhause can make it har for the engine to run. Just some shots in the dark...if I think of anything else ill post it.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll elaborate a bit more on whats happening. The engine fires right up (no stuttering/stalling), runs fine for a short amount of time (which seems to remain constant each time I start it -about 10-12 seconds or so) and then shuts off as though the ignition was disengaged. It seems to me as though the problem is more related to some sort of safety mechanism (inertia switch) which is triggered in a collision. My friend already tried to reset it but we're not sure if it worked or not. If anyone has any knowlege about resetting this inertia switch I'd appreciate the info. Since I've been looking into this more I believe this may likely be the problem as the engine is shutting off in a consistent manner as though some electronic device is killing it. Thanks.
