Default window regulator installation

Well, I am tackling the drivers side front window regulator of the '88. I have no idea where to begin. Should the window be in the up or down position before I begin? I just need some pointers/instructions thanks.

x2 on that. My driver's door regulator has gone tits up on me too. Any tips before I pull off the door panel would be greatly appreciated.

Window up if possible. Remove the obvious screws. Some are lurking under plastic caps in the door-pull recess. Take care pulling the plastic studs out: Use a flat tool with a V notch. Halfrauds sell them. Manual and electric use the same lever mechanism remember to keep your fingers out when you send the glass up/down on the motor. Mechanism needs to be folded to get it through the gap for replacement. If the metal runner has rusted-away to nothing replacing it is a doddle (unless you try to assemble it the way it left the factory: With the glass out and that needs the frame removing). Buy a genuine rubber strip but just cut three 30mm pieces from it and use these. It's impossible to get the whole strip in! Fill the groove in the track with 'No More Nails' (that stuff sticks like sh1t to a blanket) and position your three pads of rubber (each end and middle makes sense) and force glass into the channel (not much effort required). Wipe-off the excess adhesive with a wet finger (if you find one lying around) and send the glass up top. Make a brew. Do not be tempted to open it! Let the adhesive set. Buy new plastic studs to replace the ones that broke. In the words of My Haynes. Reassembly is the reverse sequence. If only!
Put the rubber strip safe: You will be doing the other side soon.
