windows? - Land Rovers Only

alright here is the story, i just bought a 1990 range rover classic when i got it only the rear passenger window would work so i decided to test all the motors to make sure they work sure enough they work when power is applied directly. i then decide to replace the switches, just installed them today, same story only the rear pasenger window rolls up and down ive checked all the fuses and relays and everything checks out fine.
now ive heard others talk about the window lift ecu. is there such a thing if so where is it located im kinda stumped with this and would appreciate any help or suggestions thanks in advance

So, since I just had this problem with my rear window...and I happen to know electric motors pretty well.....check the contacts on the switches......I replaced the motor (as it was dead) but I still had intermittent issues with one switch or another....I am in process of removing, cleaning and snugging the wires/connectors and each time it gets a little better....the only other thing to really check is the wires, to make sure they have not been compromised....but switches are easier to start with and if it is old, mine is an 88 which was well loved by it previous owner, and even then man are those contact points dirty....

as for the window ECU, I defer to the vast knowledge of someone else, becuase I have not discovered anything like that...... as of yet...

good luck, and a boddington for good measure wont hurt...

Ok, correction...Now I feel silly, but here is that ECU thing you were talking about...

"Up for auction is the power window ECU from my 1992 Range Rover Classic. The part number is ECU 6859 and should fit Rovers from 1989-92, It is in good working order. I also have the power window ECU for 1993-94 if that is the one you need. Just ask. " Item number: 190019167684, 1992 Range Rover Classic Power Window ECU

from an ebay auction... so I guess there is one...I hope knowing what it looks like might help..

That's my auction!

The ECU is located under the cubby on the center console. However, from what I've experienced, they either work or they don't. That being said, if a couple of your windows are working than I doubt the ECU is to blame.

How do the regulators (the big scissors) look. Sometimes the black coil spring at the center is shot and the windows won't move. Sometimes the plastic rollers on the ends of the regulator are broken or badly worn. If everything electrical is working look at the mechanical elements in the window lift mechanism.

all the regulators work fine ive tested them individually with just a booster pack and some jumpers they all go up and down. as far as the ecu (or the one touch window control) i thought that was just for the drivers window at least it appears that way either way i guess ill start chasing wires if i cant find anything i guess ill rewire it all

Good luck with the auction...that is pretty ironic....I guess a newbie like me is searching everywhere to gleam info/knowledge and eventually parts....

As for the windows, have you gotten a "know working" switch and tested the windows with it? With mine, I actually twisted the wires by accident, and that was what led me to the contacts on the back of the switch. Not the actual switch, but the thing that plugs into it......those wire were horrid. I might try a good switch and look at those connectors prior to rewiring the whole thing....

Good luck...if I come up with some other idea, no matter how stupid, I'll let you know...

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!

upon further investigation i was able to determine power was making it to the individual doors just not to the motor so i pull the plug apart and look at it closer and i find that the barrel connectors on the motor side were so far out of shape it wasnt even making contact pretty simple fix i guess i was able to bend them back into shape and what do you know everything works now even the one touch control thanks again guys for your suggestions and comments
