Default 1996 Disco 300 TDI loss of power

Hi,

I have a 300 TDI Disco thats seems to have no guts in it. Its fine on the flat or down hill but as soon as you show it an incline (you could even include speed bumbs!) it just cant handle it and slows right down. It has a de-cat down pipe fitted with the centre silencer removed and the EGR has also been removed and blanked off with the intercooler cleaned.

Any ideas?

I was intrigued when I saw the title of this thread. What power do you expected from a 300 TDI? Have you driven another one to compare the power to?

Good point!

I have driven a few other 300 tdis over the years and have never noticed before any kind of struggle to get up slight inclines (I cant really call them hills!) especially with only the driver in it. Im not expecting it to have sports car performance.

There are a lot of things to check.
Air Filter for restriction.
Fuel filter for restriction.
Turbo operating like it should.
Injection timing.
Engine timing.
To name a few.

I have a strong gut feeling that the turbo isnt working however one of my mates said that I would know this as there would be loads of smoke coming out of the back! Is this right?

How do I check the turbo?
