Hello,
I have a 3.9 L disco 1 with 174K on her. How do I improve my MPG to maybe 15-20 instead of the average 12-15? Should I replace my fuel filter? Or should I change out my transmission and gear box so its geared better??
Thanks
Thanks, Army
Besides the regular spark plugs/ and wires. what else do I need to do?
And I wouldn't be caught dead in a gay looking prius!!!!!!!!!!! they scream "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii'mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm gggggggggggggaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy" as they drive by. LOL
Do this. Rovers are not economical vehicles. they are meant to haul cargo and go almost anywhere. No where in the design were it to call for 45mpg. Don't like it buy a prius or drive like grandma.
atancreti: if your engine has 174 thousand miles on it, 12-15 mpg isn't bad at all. If you do the obvious things you might improve things a bit but not much:
•keep tires hard
•use the thinnest oil the engine will tolerate
•employ some hyper-miling tricks
We use our Disco for fun and trailer towing only - drive an older Volvo wagon that gets 22mpg in town and 30mpg on the highway. For real economy, get an econobox for a daily driver (My old beetle could top 50 mpg on the highway - I paid $40 for it in '66, sold it for $100 a few years later.)
