Just a quickie - question that is.
This seams to be the only lift out there at this height. Why is that? I am in the process of deiciding on a lift and thought I would get some feedback on this one. When I had my Jeep I started with 2", Went to 4" and then to 5.5". Don't care to go through the many swap overs (i know probably unavoidable). I do a lot of rock'n so want something I will be happy with. Just seems that the bottom of the Disco hangs low (with the exhaust and all) Robert |

I have never had a lifted vehicle but I have put lifts on peoples vehicles etc etc.....I know from experience that you should go ahead and get as much lift as you think you will want because it gets to be a pain in the ass as you probably know to go back and change it ever so often....

I would go with a 3" suspension lift and a two" body lift if your looking for five inches. In my opinion, the key is to squeeze the biggest tires with the least amount of lift. A 5" suspension lift requires serious mods. Rover Tym can set you up with whatever kit you decide to go with.

The reason that they are not available because it would be unwise to put that much lift in. The vehicle would be very unstable and it will cost you a fortune in shocks, drive shafts, camber correction, etc, etc, etc. I am not sure why anyone would want a 5 inch lift. The most I would go would be between 2 and 3 inches and then put in a 2 inch body lift.

My Rangie has a 2 inch body lift and a 2 inch spring lift. You will see photos of mine under the off road section of the forum. A spring lift does not allow bigger tyres to be fitted unless you limit the upward travel of the diff. Only a body lift allows bigger tyres without affecting the axle travel. I go out with the "serious" off roaders and competition vehicles, NONE have any more than a 3 inch spring lift, ALL have at least a 2 inch body lift. The spring lift is only to centre the axle movement. That is, to allow the axle to move roughly the same distance up as down.

Sorry, I forgot what forum I was in, I have a Rangie, but the same applies to Discos. In the off road threads I have posted or those by "Walker" will show discos with a 1 inch spring lift with 34 inch Simex tyres on them and no body cutting.

I'm getting a Rovertym 2inch body lift pretty soon myself along with silders ,recovery and diff pros. Also x2 on that 5 inch suspension lift the disco wouldn't be the vehicle to drive with that very unstable.

I have a 5" lift and i love it
If YOU HAVE NEVER HAD A 5" LIFT I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE ROOM TO TALK ON ITS BEHALF YES it was $$$ but i'll never go back and I do drive it each and every day look at the pics and find a set up that will do that with 35" tires on it |

A person that has spent a lot of money putting something on their car is not going to admit that it was the wrong thing to do and therefore is very biased in their views. A 5 inch spring lift will raised the centre of gravity of the car considerably and will make it more unstable on and off road. It has no advantages on or off road over a body lift. Yet a body lift has a lot of advantages over a spring lift. It keeps the centre of gravity lower and reduces the expense and issues with the drive train that a spring lift causes. It allows the axles to move freely and allows bigger tyres to be fitted. But then again you have many people saying this on the forum and only one person saying it was a good idea.

To show what is achievable, below is a picture of a D2 with 34.5 inch tyres on and has about a 1.5 inch spring lift. It is very capable off road and has gone many places that you would not take your own vehicles. I could post at least another 10 discos of freinds that have the same setup. So there is no need to go to large spring lifts to fit larger tyres, you only have to give it a little thought.
