I have a 1992 Dual Fuel Disco. I have 2 problems, and I was wondering if someone could help. I'm not massively mechanically minded, but I will try to change parts myself before paying someone else to do it!
My first problem is that I have been told that my fuel pump has burned out - this is highlighted by the fact that the car doesn't run on Petrol, but runs fine on Gas. Where on the V8i is the Fuel Pump located? Does anyone have a photo of where it is and roughly what it looks like? I thought it was going to look cylindrical - is that correct? Also, a few weeks ago, I had the Disco "serviced" because it was only filling up on approx half the anticipated amount of Gas. I could get in about £15.00 in the twin tanks that SHOULD take around £25.00. I was admitedly getting the correct amount of mileage for my £15.00 HOWEVER since having it serviced, I can now get about £25.00 - £28.00 of Gas in the car BUT I'm now only getting approx 100 miles to a full tank whereas I should get around 180 miles of town driving, and 220-ish miles of motorway driving. What could be causing this? My problem is that I have moved from south of London to Scotland, and cannot get the car back to the garage that serviced it before I moved... |

I imagine that the conversion to gas didn't require modification of the petrol systems. If that's the case, your fuel pump is in the fuel tank itself, underneath the matting in the cargo area. You'll see a large round cap in the middle of the bed - take that off and you should see the top of the pump assembly (electrical wires and fuel lines). Do a search - there have been several pictures posted that'll give you a clear idea. You need to get yourself a manual (Workshop, Haynes, Rave CD) if you want to be really effective. Can't help you on the rest of your issues, first because I know little about hybrids (you may want to check in the hybrid forum), and second because I'm just starting to become familiar with the Disco. Cheers,

Before you replace the pump, replace your fuel filter, check your voltage to the pump, could be a bad relay or fuse. Do all these things first then replace the pump if it still won't run.

First, I'm not a mechanic, so take this for what it is worth.
If your miles per gallon on propane has dropped so significantly, then either your vehicle is burning that much more or some is leaking out. The latter possibility could be an explosive one and so I would recommend you get it checked. Could it be that the bleed valve is not closing all the way? If your vehicle is burning that much all of a sudden, then I'd wonder what the place did to your vehicle other than work on the tank.?? By the way.Despite being in Texas, I'm a Bradfute, from Crawfordjohn, Lanarkshire, Scotland....but that was in the 1200s. ![]()
