Default 94 Land Rover discovery series I automatic transmission won't shift

HEEEEELP!
So I bought my first Land Rover (94 Discovery I) super cheap from a not so super person. Apparently the tranny had problems which I found out after I signed the title and went to drive away. But anyways, The transmission stays in 1st gear solidly, does not try to shift, does not make any noises. The engine is strong and drug me and my wounded Landy home at a top speed of 30 MPH.

PLEASE, PLEASE, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks so much for all of your input, I enjoy reading through the posts here!

ok, just to give an update for those who are learning (like me) I was almost convinced this tranny was dead. But as a last measure, I ran a can of Seafoam tranny juice in it and then changed the filter and added new tranny fluid.(let me just say the transmission filter was a bear to change, getting to it anyway, just go ahead and take the exhaust down and move the cross beam, you wont get it down unless you do! OMGosh!!) after this day-long event, i took it for a drive and the all the gears shifted soo nicely! until i shut it off and started it back up it stopped shifting again. The next morning i put another can of Seafoam and ran it a while and changed the fluid with no luck. Frustrated again i put two cans in and decided I was driving it to work no matter if it worked or not! after a couple miles it started shifting again, very smoothly! I decided to leave the Seafoam in for a couple days to make sure it cleaned up real good, this morning driving to work it started shifting hard so I am going to change the Tranny fluid when I get home this afternoon. I am really liking these ZF trannys!! Go LANDY's!!

If you think your transmissions going bad, tough problems shifting let's say into second. What is your best suggestion?
My disco's a 1995, only at 132,xxx miles and I'm having some sticking after a new alternator was just put in, hard times shifting into second gear. Transmission was replaced close to seven years ago, so I figure its' alright. Do you think I have bad O2 sensors or something else?

An expert opinion would be welcome and gratefully appreciated.

The definition of stupidity is repeating the exact same act and expecting a different outcome.

Stop adding shit to your transmission. It will not do a thing.

Changing the oil and filter is the most you can do at this stage. It sounds like your governor has crap in it. After a filter and oil change it can still take a little while for the stuff to come back out (if it is going to come back out)

Seafoam is not a hydraulic fluid, it is simply a cleaning agent, and you should not drive any kind of distance with that crap in there. It aerates like crazy, and neither the pump, nor the governor like bubbles, just plain solid ATF. Drain it all out, and only run a good quality synthetic ATF. Are you certain your cable, between shifter and gearbox, is adjusted correctly. It might not be the problem, but I have heard of many instances where the car stays in 3rd.

If it's shifting now you either have crap in the governor or in the throttle valve. Hard shifting would most likely be crap in the throttle valve. The only thing I would consider putting in the transmission aside from ATF is a product called Lubeguard. It's a friction modifier package and will smooth out shifts and can help free up sticky valves in the valve body and governor. You might also consider flushing out the transmission cooler, crap tends to settle there and get flushed back into the trans when fresh fluid is put in. ATF is very high in detergents.
