95 disco angled rear drive shaft

Hey y'all

On the 95 disco it has the angled rear drive shaft with the dumb rubber coupling.. Annoying .. There has got to be a way to put a standard u joint with out buying the whole shaft 399.99 I know u can replace the rubber coupling but how long will it last again till vibration starts let me know if you guys have been able to add a ujoint with out whole shaft.

aahhh the stupid rubber problem.. had the same problem. i just replaced mine but was looking into alternatives. find a used drive shaft for about 150.00 from a newer model disco don't know if the d2's will work though. get a 4 bolt flange for about 100.00 and swap it out. i personally got lazy and opted to just change the coupler.
you're going to need a slid hammer to get the central pin out though which can be a pain

oh and that coupler ought to last you a long time. asked some mechanics as to why the hell LR would put a stupid peice of rubber. explaination was the there's already alot of drive clunk with the coupler, would be worse with u joint. sounds fair to me. know a few ppl that did the conversion and they said the clucking isn't too bad but can see how it'll anony some people

yeh same here, i just opted out and got a standard rubber one for 70 bucks...

I have heard that you can use a drive shaft from a 88 - 89 Rangie, just make sure that you get the pinion flange with it. There should be an old RR in a salvage yard somewhere. If you plan on lifting the Rover in the future the drive shaft will be required as the roto-flex wont take much lift. I bought the driveshaft conversion years ago, when it was only 299.00. You may still find it for less @ dap-inc.com, great place for parts. Good Luck! LRW

Make sure the spline count on the flange mates to the pinion on your rig. The 10 spline rigs used a different flange spline count.

Removing the centering peg isn't that big a deal. Use a bolt down the center and a big socket as a puller. I was amazed at how easy it was after hearing all the stories of doom and impending doom when undertaking this task.

Also, make sure the flange you get doesn't need a spacer ring. Some flanges have a longer casting that doesn't use the spacer.
