Default 95 Disco rear sunroof

Good morning from the Jersey shore-this is my first post although I've trolled this site with success before-it feels better being a member already-my 'current' problem is my rear sunroof that will slide forward but will not tilt down to the closed position-just makes a click sound at that point. This would happen sporadically over the years but after a couple of tries it would always close. Is there a way to manually lower it? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated

And you probably never once cleaned and lubed the tracks and rails???
There is a way to manually close the roof, but is you can't get it down, you can't use the hand crank.

Default Sunroof wont go down

Several problems may cause this:

#1) Broken or Worn Sunroof Rails - Yours may Need a Set of New Sunroof Rails installed. This can only be done by Removing The Headliner Board on Discoverys.

#2) Exterior Plastic Trim Ring is Warped which has this same effect as your, Wont allow the Sunroof Rails to operate and wont allow the Glass to lower plus once it does go down if at all, it wont be able to seal to the glass and water will come in.- If this is the problem only a New Sunroof Assemblie will resolve the problem- I have these in stock too.

#3) Sunroof Motor or Relay going bad!

#4) Halloween gremlins working against you and playing a bad joke on you and your Discovery.

#5) As Mike said too a Good Cleaning of the sunroof would help to but my guess its one of the 3 options above your dealing with. Not The Halloween Gremlins.

I have 17 years experience working on Headliner & Sunroof Repairs on Landrovers.

Let me know how i can help in any way. bill

If you need a set of sunroof rails including the plastic frame that they mount to, I have a number of them. Same thing goes for the sunroof motor or relay. When you've figured out the problem let me know and I'm sure I can get you what you need for a good price.
Cheers,
Paul

I'll take you up on this offer!

This weekends to-do list includes inspecting, cleaning & the sun roofs. What do you recommend for the cleaning the tracks & rails and which lube should I use?

I dont think just cleaning your sunroof rails and re-lube will fix your problem, My Best guess you will need a new set of sunroof rails at the least. If your roof is closed for now, be repaired for the worst that if you start moving parts around and you dont have the parts in hand to fix the problem.

Depending on where you live, snow bound states, this may not be a good idea until you have parts to fix it

Hope this helps.

Let me know How I can Help in Any Way.

My sunroofs are working just fine. I just want to maintain them. I also send you a PM on a quote for a headliner replacement kit

I responded to your personal Email Address just a little while ago, check your email.

As per cleaning - Make sure any debris is out of the Sunroof Rail or Lower Tub Assemble ie, Leafs,Twigs,Egg Corns,Gremlins....., Make sure that the underside of the Sunroof Glass were it meets the Rubber Seal is Clean, (Use a Window Cleaner) to clean the bottom rim of the glass and a silicon spray to soften the rubber seal located under the glass to keep it flexible and soft from the elements.

We use a High Temp White Spray Grease to keep the rails sliding freely within the Sunroof. (High Temp) is a Must anything else will break down do to the large amount of Heat Build up from mother nature.

Make sure all screws are snug, and not loose

Be careful of the drain tubes below the headliner board, remember you only have 2 drain tubes on a discovery, they break often with little reason.

Hope this all helps.

Let me know if i can help you in any way. Bill
