'95 idle

why would all of a sudden would my idle go from around 750 to around 1500?? it has all new plugs and wires new air filter and the intake was cleaned! none of this has fixed it!! please help!! Thanks

Have you check the throttle cable and cruise control cables? Have you checked your idle control to see if it is sticking?

Ok....I don't want to sound stupid, but where is the idle control??? I'm not sure if this is connected, but on the drivers side valve cover, at the rear, there is a vacuum hose that is no connected to anything! It looks like it was routed at one time under the air intake just before the MAP sensor. there is a clip with nothing attached! Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

I think Mike is referring to the idle air control valve (IACV), aka the stepper motor. Do a search here (LRO) for stepper and you'll get tons of info. Check this string for starters: Idle issue!!!, then clean the actuator (after you check everything else Mike suggested).

Loose hoses make me nervous! If you post a picture of it, we may be able to help you a bit better...

Do you have access to a Haynes or LR Workshop manual (maybe the Rave CD)?

If you have a major vacuum hose of, that will trash your idle, look into that some more.

The clip under the air intake is for the electrical line bundle from the Mass Air Flow sensor. There are several vacuum lines in the vicinity. The fuel pressure regulator has a short hose that connects to a connector on the plenum chamber. I have a photo of the engine compartment which I can email you so that you can check to see if you have your vacuum hoses connected where they should be. It is too large (80 KB) to be posted here. here is the photo. I had to trim it down quite a bit to meet the size of the file. I checked the idle air control. It was very dirty so I cleaned it with CVC throttle body cleaner (safe for coated TBs, heard on site that was the only thing to use). Im not sure what to check for with the throttle and cruise control cables. Sorry!

You want to look for a cable binding up. Might also unhook both and see if the throttle body has full movement and does not stick.

I don't know which year model you have. The photos attached are from a 97. Perhaps they will help.

It's a '95. I will check the cables as suggested. Wade those pics are real good,but I can't see where the hose ends up. Thanks though!

The cables both should hook up on the throttle body, make sure you unhook them to make sure the t/body isn't sticking.

Did you try the fuel filter? I had mine replaced today, it was filled with MUD!, the truck is running so much better.

good idea to change the fuel filter, we always seem to forget it till it is too late, but it help in the case, it won't cause the idle to go up into the 1500 range.
