You say there is fuel and spark. The engine cranks properly - with some compression? Was she running normally before and then wouldn't start one day, or were there some symptoms while still running? Any codes showing? Sounds like you need to follow a systematic check list. Best of luck.

So, do I understand that someone had pulled out the distributor and shoved it back 2 teeth over? I wonder how you managed to get it started that one time? Amazing what some people will do! Happy to hear you solved the problem.
If she was sitting a long time (a year), take the time to change as many fluids as you have time for... |

they had the plug wires moved over one on the cap also /abs light on goes out on drive test and works brake pedal soft bled brakes still soft at times???? at
least runs now and tach inop headlights very dim ground issue ??? i think any ideas was going to use this to drive 2 hours on week ends to race remote control vehicels not sure if i can trust it after looking at all the forums ???? ![]() |

If the tach doesn't work and lights are dim, it might be a bad alternator. You might be able to get the alt checked for free although it's best to take it out first (about 30 mins work combined out & in)
IMO you will probably be sorry trying to drive 2 hours on your weekends. You'll likely end up with expensive towing bills and alot of frustration. Once you get all (most) the problems worked out, then is the time to roam far from home. Until then, what about 15 minute drives close to your fav repair shop! These vehicles are finicky- if the baby-boomer Brits had built a steam powered Disco with little or no wires (the Series models), it would have been bullet proof but they jumped into the electronic/modern electrical systems age before the newer generation of engineers was out of their teens. Hence these vehicles have poor electricals. If you really enjoy your new Disco, you should be able to get it working well after some sustained effort - sounds like your not there yet. Sorry to be so long-winded. |

Put on napa reman with liftime warranty still have left front head lamp issue dim have not checked wires yet any idea on that one ,fires up nice changing all fluids ,,whats best for my new beast what about hub ends ,i know sounds like stupid ? but want to know from owners of long living discos only 73000 miles on this thing ordered caliper rebuild kit online rt front leaking thanks again

If one headlight is dim, then it's likely to be either the wiring (unplug, clean and reattach connectors) or just a bad bulb. You need to have a spare headlight bulb anyway, so just get one from NAPA and substitute it in...
By "Hub" I'm guessing you mean the front swivel pin housing that holds the front axle chrome ball ends. With the existing contents hot from driving 15 minutes, drain the oil from the lower grease plug and replace with the proper LR knuckle grease (ONE SHOT SWIVEL HOUSING GREASE STC3435). Make sure the new grease, in its thin plastic pouch, is warm/hot first. This is a slow and messy process to do yourself because you have to make sure all the tube of grease is squeezed into the upper filler hole. If it won't all go in, go for a short drive and then finish the grease filling process - very laborious. Get yourself a Haynes manual (#3016) immediately! |
