First off, this forum appears to be great, thanks to all who are sharing knowlege and experience to all of us who are looking .
I purchased a 96 disco SE7 recently and I have a few things that I'd like to take care of initially, so here goes: - I thought that the lights on the rear bumper (left side) were burnt out but when I took the bulbs out, the ground prong fell out of one of the sockets, where is the best place to get a new socket? - The front right fog light is out and is a sealed beam light, can someone reccomend an aftermrket light that will fit? - I purchased new tires Toyo Terra Grapplers AT 255/65/16 and didn't realize that they weren't the factory size (235/70/16) could this pose any problems? They look and ride great, by the way. - It's sort of a hard starter, I have to crank the engine for a few seconds, stop and crank it again before it will fire. I bought new spark plugs that I will install tomorrow, but if this doesn't help???? Also, it has 102k on it.Any and all advice will be much appreciated. Thanks!

1. check out roverparts.com and roversnorth
2. same as above 3. do they rub when you drive if not your good if thye rub then trim or lift 4. i dont know yea i know im not much of help smarter poepel will chime in i just wanted to ask for pics of it and ask if you going to offroad/do some mods o and welcom to the 96 club |

for parts any number of places should be able to help you out here are a few examples. www.roversnorth.com, www.atlanticbritish.com, www.britishpacific.com. I find British Pacific to be the most reasonably priced sometimes they can be a little snooty but if you're more concerned with getting cheap parts then getting your you know what kissed they are a good place for New parts. There are also a number of used Salvage places that sell lot's of rover parts.
If it was me I would just remove the factory fog lights and the air dam. You'll just bust them up again if you go off roading with it. The 255/65's are only about 1/10th of an inch taller then the stock tires so you won't have to worry about ride hight. They are about 3/4" wider then stock so you might have to adjust your steering stops if they rub on your radius arms at full lock. But you won't need to do any kind of trimming for them. For the hard start and this is something that you should probably do for any used vehicle you buy. I would start with New Plugs (which you have) Stay away from Bosh Platinums lot's of complaints about those they do work for some but not for everybody and new wires try and go with a good quality wire, Change all the fluids and filters including Air and Fuel make sure you check the serpentine belt. Finally run a can of seafoam though the fuel tank. I would also do a direct seafoam treatment but that's up to you. If you do be forewarned it will piss off the neighbors if they are around. If after all that it still has problems starting maybe check your fuel pressure. Good luck

for the starting, turn it on but dont crank it nd wait for most (not all) of ur idiot lights to turn off nd then crank it.
i have a bad fuel pump, it loses pressure it when car is turn off nd jus needs a couple of seconds to get it back, but if i wait to long it loses it again |

Thanks for all the tips, I got the spark plugs installed (NGK), easiest spark plug change ever. Lot's of room to work in there! I have a K&N filter coming today, hopefully it helps with mileage a little. The tires don't rub, pics to come in the next couple of days. I intend to do a seafoam treatment in the gas tank. As far as mods go, probably down the line, but I want to get her up to par on MX first. floridadisco1: Ill try the fuel pump theory, sounds like a winner. Thanks again for the info, everyone.

If its the factory air dam fog lights, those are not sealed beams, you have to remove the light from the air dam, there are two screws on the sides that retain both the light to the bracket and the lense/reflector to the houseing, once you have them out, you can get to the bulb, normal H3 55wt bulb. If you want some good aftermarket fogs, I have a set of Cibie I95 fog lights, with 3 good clear lenses and a pair of brand new amber lenses I would swap ya for your factory fog lamps, if thats what they are. Gems is Land Rovers, General Engine Management System. I have the thick shop manal for our rovers from Atlantic British. If you need something, let me know and I can scan it and email it to ya. I do highly recomend you either get the manual or the CD for your puter. Makes trouble shooting the Disco that much easier. I have pics of the fogs if your interested. Cheers Mike and Michele T

Actually, it stands for GENERIC engine managment System. I few Brit cars use it, including Land Rover and Morgan come to mind.
The ECU alarm sync TSB is a delaerhsip thing. You need ROvers Diagnostic computer called Testbook to perform it. Literally, you plug it in, get to the right page and let it work for about 10 minutes. |
