I have been out of the Land Rover loop for a while ever since my '01 got totaled, so I don't know much about the Disco I's. I was curious as to whether 1996 is a good year, or a bad year. I plan on checking it out this weekend, but as for now, the information I have is that it's rear sunroof gets stuck, and the rear windows are tempermental.
If you guys have any advice other than general "look for rust" comments, let me know. they are asking $4000 O.B.O. |

hi, being a first time owner myself, i wished i had instead bought the '95 ES rather then the '96 COUNTY model. i have got endless problems and yes the rear windows are on it's own.
i had read through this D1 threads, and the most discuss model in question is, yes you bet, the '96! good luck, i wasn't and still not! |

I've got 209k on my 96, very few problems, a dream compared to the 01 I had (I totaled my 01, too). Had 119 k on it when I bought it btw.
There's an ez fix for the windows, go to www.discoweb.org and check the tech section, or do what I did and get a used window computer and swap the cards. |

I have a 96 Discovery and I love it.
It currently has 104K miles and still going strong. The key to long life is staying on top of repairs and keeping the truck with fresh oils every 3-4K miles. hope this helps. ![]()

I'm in the 200k club too! My 98 D1 has 204k. I got it at 160k. A little clatter at idle of late, but not too bad.
My 96 D1 only has 88k, and I got it with 81k, but it runs strong. Needs the window ecu to be soldered, and a vss, but its great. Discos rock, but they can be demanding. There are def. some lemons out there too, but thats true for all manufacturers. I need a vehicle with character, and a civic, camry, etc., has none. Happy rovering! |

Okay...so I went and scoped out the DI.
The good: it runs cold a/c minimal rust everything mechanical works great, hi-lo CDL tranny shifted smooth only 90,000miles.. The bad: (not too bad)Exhaust manifold is missing a bolt so it has a horrible exhaust leak the rear sunroof has been stuck open for who knows how long the headliner is worse than any disco i've ever seen...probably because of the leaky sunroof dash board is basically ripped up needs body work a.k.a. a new hood What 'should' the buying/selling price for a rover in this condition be? |

I'd stay far away from that one.. You saw the obvious wear & tear.. & if it was that bad, the underlying stuff will be a mess. For the price range you mentioned, you can get a much nicer vehicle. Shop around.. forums, ebay.. see what most these vehicles are going for.. DI's are at great prices right now.
