Hey all my 97 Discovery has a lot of steering wheel play. When you go to turn the wheel say going around a corner the wheel turns quite a bit before the vehicle does. It causes me to weave all over the road just trying to drive straight. Wondering what goes bad on the steering of this vehicle. I have had other vehicles have bad tierods and cause this but not sure if the Disco has tierods? Any advice appreciated. Thanks

You are going to need to crawl under your truck and get acquainted. Could be the pre load on your Swivels, bad tie rod ends bad bushings and the list goes on.
If you are not familiar with what to look for get it into a Rover shop and have them rack your truck for an inspection. Mike |

Check out the bushing replacement thread I put up. The pan hard rod bushings wear and can give a lot of play. Also make sure the swivel pins are inspected by a good rover shop. Check all the shocks on the vehicle. The tie rods also can be checked. Most of these parts you can replace yourself.

take a rag and shake the tie rod ends on the ground. if they are loose its a new set.
if they are tight and the bearings are ok. here is something else i have seen after accidents. with all the oil leaks onto the box and the bolts i have seen the bolts loosen up just a hair causing a slight jar on bumps and when appliying the brake. but thats usually after hitting something hard. if you dont want to do an entire bar then you have to take them off and use a torch to take them off. its not fun. did a set last week and took two hours to heat the tie rods off and the adjuster as well.
