Default 98 Disco

This is probably a dumb question, but I cant find a simple answer anywhere... how is the best way to tell if I have a series one or a series two? I have read that there are 98 1s and 98 2s both, and need a headlight assembly. Do I look for a 1 or 2 series?
Thanks.
Mike

!999 was actually the year for both the DI and the DII. Easy ways to tell the difference are the door handles and tail lights. If you have door handles that are flush with the doors you have a DI. If they stick out you have a DII. If your tail lights are high up one the rear corners you have a DII. If they are more conventionally located you have a DI. Other differences are in the engine management system. The DI, early on used the Lucas 14CUX EFI system (1994-95) with a distributor, switching to the GEMS EFI system with a coil pack from 1996-99. In 1999 the DII was introduced with a 4.0L just like the DI but with the Bosch EFI system. From 2003-2004 they came with the bigger 4.6L Bosch engine.
Cheers,
Paul
