Hey there everybody, I am experiencing a "clink" sound when lightly tapping my brakes. When I apply harder, no sound...just when tapping. Now this sound seems to be coming from the hub assembly area...( I had my G/f drive by me several times and ruled out the sound coming from the drivetrain.) Now, I hope to get into this project this weekend, but wanted some advise to see if any of you guys and gals have had the same issue!
Also, I've got alot of Gasoline smell coming from my exhaust. I've tried all sorts f injector cleaners and nothing. I am starting to think that it may be a really clogged injector(s) or extremly dirty exhaust/intake valves. Any suggestions? Long live Rover....and down with ford! ![]() |

How many miles on your truck?
The only way to tell what is causing that brake noise would be to start pulling down the brakes and see what is failing. As for your exhaust smell, what octane gas are you using, when was it last tumed, do you have a check engine light on? Mike |

The Clink sound is not unusual when you tap on the brakes. There is a slight space between the rotor surface and the brake pad. You are hearing the mating of those surfaces. You must good ears. I hear that only at street speeds, not highway speed.
Try a can of spray brake cleaner. Spray the rotors and get the dust off, let it dry (30-45 seconds) and see if the sound changes. Now, If you are talking about the gas smell when you start the truck up, the ecu does not do the emissions part awhile the engine is cold. The ECU will add extra gas into the cylinders and it will do a revolution extra so all the cylinders are primed with fuel, so yes at startup it will smell like fuel. Take off and do a drive. When the engine is warm, then it will do the emissions thing and go lean. You should only smell hot brakes, oil, and whatever is in the ashtray. Adam in NYC
