ABS Light!

Made up my mind to replace the sensors, drivers front and both rear bad based on Dealer's call. Replaced them and all was well for a couple of weeks. Recently the light has come on after driving a short distance from startup. I thought it was the front working its way out so for a while when this happened I would stop, cutoff the truck, reach over the tire (wife mad about destroying a couple of shirts) and push it down completely. As per the manual when starting and moving into gear the sensor seated in the proper position.and the light would go off or so I thought Well it has gotten more frequent. Every time I drive. Odd thing though is I stopped pushing it back in and just started turning off the truck for a second or two and then restarting it. Clears light for many miles but eventually comes back on. Any suggestions?

What year is your truck, how many miles?
I can't believe you had 4 bad sensors and am thinking you have something else going on.
If it is one sensor kicking loose, I would question the hub not being able to hold the sensor as a possibility. Have you ever had the codes read and found out exactly what they were?

1996 SD with 112,000 miles. Mike, the dealer told me they read the codes and recommended doing it. The ABS light was on and I was having severe braking problems in addition (recently acquired the truck). They also found the master cyclinder needed to be replaced. They quoted prices on the sensors and I decided to it myself (British Atlantic parts).

It will be interesting to see how it works out after replacing the master cylinder, make sure you do a good brake flush, not just a quick bleed job.

Had new tires put on today, maybe just teasing me but the light did not come home on the 30 mile drive home. The rep from the tire store did say he thought the brakes needed to leed. The dealership charged me for a flush job but maybe I got flushed!

Just look at the brake fluid, if it is clear your are OK, if it is at all discolored you should try blee3ding it.

Okay, update. Light off for two days. Now the ABS light comes on, only if I don't back up a little when starting the truck before I put it in 1st. When starting, if I put it in 1st and take off, light doesn't go off. I have to stop, cut the ignition, restart it and put it in reverse and actually go a few feet before putting it in 1st. When I do this it goes off and does not come back on again. At least until the next time I drive it. Any suggestions. This gets annoying.

When changing the sensors did you also change the sensor bush and oil seal or the sensors will simply ‘bounce out’ of position. If so I would start by changing the one that moves again.
Have you checked wheel bearing play.
