Default Alternator pulley rubbing fan shroud

Anybody know why the pulley would be rubbing the shroud? The shroud is buckled down where it's supposed to be, but it's resting right on the belt, not real hard but it's touching, plus you can see where someone trimmed the shroud further down so it wouldn't rub the belt( down the drivers side of the belt). PO had water pump replaced some time ago, is the alt not bolted in correctly? Weird. I don't have the truck at home yet so I don't have a picture, but I'll get one as soon as I can.

The fan shroud has to be in the wrong place.
Or the radiator is leaning towards the engine.

Is the best routed correctly? My belt was on wrong when I bought it and it was very close the the shroud.

I think the belts right, because the alternator only goes on one way and the shroud is literally on top of the pulley.

There were no gaps between the shroud and radiator that I can remember, what the hell would cause the radiator to be leaning forward!!! Doesn't sound good if it is, I'll go look at it tomorrow and see if there is anything more obvious. Thanx for the replies.

I've found about a dozen 4.0 engine pics on the web, and everyone of them have the fan shroud actually covering the belt and pulley, but not sitting on it obvisouly, so it looks like its sitting where it's supposed to, but it's hanging down or sagging for some reason. At least I know what to try and look at now. Thanx

The usual reason for the belt to rub is from being misrouted. You might think it only goes on one way but you'd be wrong. The alternator will turn in the correct direction but the water pump won't. Make sure the shroud is inside it's tabs on the bottom of radiator support mount. It's also common for those to be on the outside of the lower support where the shroud can slide down. If the top of the shroud isn't even with the top of the radiator support where it's clipped on then it's heading south.

Were the motor mounts replaced recently? Have seen where new (particularly aftermarket) mounts push the motor up a bit higher than when original which moves that pulley into or above the shroud.

And the winners are stb616, and ihscouts. The belt was indeed routed incorrectly. The jack ass mechanic that replaced this water pump put it on wrong, and instead of fixing it they cut the f'n shroud, idiots. I asked the guy if it had ever over heated at all after the pump was installed? He said once, during the summer, but nothing serious, he turned the a/c off and that was enough to cool it down. Thanx for the input guys.

Nope, you win, you get proper engine cooling.
