Cool Anti Lock Break Behavior - Disco I - 97

Greeting ya all.

Frequent reader of this great forum, this is like my 2nd or fifth post

I live in Washington State. We had ton of snow and ice this year (not global warming my foot --- but that topic can wait ). The Rover could go up those hills around here, when no other car can, and I am grateful for that.

Question: Brakes were replaced last year, and when braking on the ice, the car slides, in a straight line, for about 2-3 feet, and while the brake is pressed down, I can feel what can be described as a spring, with little pumping sound and vibration, right under the brake pedal. The car does stop, after the 2-3 foot slippage. Is this normal? is that the function of the ABS?

Answer will be appreciated

This is normal operation of the ABS. Sounds like it works well. Be glad it doesnt happen on dry pavement like my 98 did until I pulled the ABS fuse.

Have fun in all the snow, here in PA we have not gotten any

I agree, it is very normal, that is the whole idea of ABD is to stop you straight on a slippery surface.

Mine does that even when I'm stopping slowly sometimes, and even if I don't hit a slippery spot. Is THAT normal?

no... may have to get a abs sensor changed, or tap it down a little. Do a search lots of info! You can do it Kelli, it's and easy fix!
