Is that highway or city? You should be getting 34mpg on the highway and around 28 city. Get rid of the EGR system as well.

I'm getting about 28 mpg.... (disco-I) also have 4:11 gearing so it could be better. Although i'm not to happy about paying $3.55 per gallon for diesel here!

I have about an 18 gallon tank.... Not fun to fill these days with gas prices as they are here in the states (N.E.). However It feels a little better knowing i'm getting good gas mileage!

My LR mechanic told me he has seen a few come through his shop with 500,000-750,000 miles on them and still going.

I've heard the same. I'm at only 35k or so since the conversion so it's hardly broken in. Great engine / vehicle.

ALWAYS ensure that you change the cam belts on them and get the chain tensioner upgrade as they are great engines until that goes! If you just bought it,unless he has a reciept for a recent change get it replaced ASAP! The upgrades chain tensioner kit costs about £150 installed with a new belt.Do it or regret it.

Thanks for the advice! You wouldn't happen to have part numbers or something you could pass along would you?

There are a lot of shops around that will and can do it. As far as cost, it can really vary. $15k-25 for a conversion..... from what I have seen. You can get a disco-I with a bad engine for $1500, but the problem you run into is regardless of the cost for the coversion you run into many "other" things that end of having to be fixed.

As far as my conversion, I was lucky enough to have someone else spend a silly amount of money for the work done on my truck.....I "stole" it. It was sold after someone dumped a shitload of cash into it then got busted for fraud or something along those lines. I lucked out.

That would be with the proper 300TDI rover engine. You won't (or you would be ridiculously lucky if you did) find a rover diesel at a junk yard. Lot's of write ups here on just search for 300TDI conversions.
