Default Bad Oil Leak

Hi Fella's,

Wish my introduction to the board could have been under better circumstances but there not. I have had my 95 Disco for about 3 years and I have never had a problem with it, no leaks, Engine or Transmission problems whatsoever, the car has been the dream I always thought it would be. Well 2 days ago I was driving my 95 Disco home and every time I drove above 45 mph my temperature gage went up as well as my speedometer, the faster I drove the higher the temperature gage went, well I took the car in to a LandRover shop and found out the radiator was being restricted they fixed that problem $550.00 dollars later (RAPE), but now the bottom of the truck is covered with oil, the car is not running hot and it's running smoothly but leaking about a quart of oil a day onto the bottom part of the engine chasis. There is know oil on top of the engine whatsoever, the oil is below the top surface of the engine. I am afraid, thats right you heard me afraid to take it back to the Rover shop because I know whats in store for me, I'm somewhat mechanically inclined so I fiqured I would ask the LandRover breathern for "HELP". Where do I start.

What did they do to the radiator? A new rad from AB is over $500.

You say your speedometer would go up along with the temp gauge????

Ok, clean the area where the oil is leaking from and try to determine where it's coming from, maybe the left the oil cooler line loose.

Good luck.

They basically just did a flush and drain with a few new hoses, The Radiator was fine it was just clogged. They charged me for 5 hours of labor to figure out what the problem was. Is it possible I cold have damaged the engine in any way. Like I said all the oil seems to be comming from the bottom of the engine there is no oil topside and it's running fine no knocking or anything just leaking oil from somewhere. The engine, shocks, inside of the wheels, cv joints everything is covered in oil. I will clean it off and see where it could possiblt be comming from, I was worried the engine itself might have been damaged

Go to a local Autozone or Advanced discount and buy like 3 - 4 cans of engine degreaser spray the hell out of it when you get home, make sure you get under and spray underneith too, where ever you see oil spray it there... let it stand for about 15-20 min and then rinse it off with your hose..... then just wait to the next morning and open her up and see if you see any oil leaking.... if you can see where it is coming from you will be able to determine what the problem is

Also - i have a 94 disco and i was having a few leaks -- i took my socket wrench and just went to every bolt i saw and i couldnt believe some of the bolts were really loose it helped a lot with the leaking

Trey,
I would suggest you take it to a shop ASAP and have them determine what is wrong, if they feel it has been caused by the radiator flush, go after them.
Keep an eye on your oil level also until you get it fixed.

Trey,

There are two hoses connected to the rad. at the upper right (pass side). From there, they run to the bottom of the engine near the oil filter. If they removed these during the fix, they might not have put them back properly. They will leak alot! They didn't change the oil did they? Check the plug and filter. Worst case it could be a rear main seal. Well maybe not worst. Let us know what you find.

Thanks guys,

After cleaning the lower chasis of the engine like LRDISCO94 said it was right there in front of me, the leak was comming from the oil regulator fuse right above the oil filter. Thanks guys for the help you saved me mucho dinero $$ for sure. I wouldn't have thought something that small could leak so much oil and make such a mess. Cheers.

Yea thats it LRDisco94, an oil Pressure switch. It's a little white screw in switch that hooks up to a little connect lead. I couldn't believe it was causing all that trouble.
