Default Battery drain & upper radiator hose

I have had a 1995 disco 1, 5 speed with 148,000 miles for a year now--love it and just returned from the outer banks where I was running around on the beach-it did great on the whole 1500 mile trip. the other day I was at a stop light and she died. No power. I have done the usual stuff to her since I got it--new alternator 3000miles ago and new battery at the same time. With a jump she started fine but the battery was very drained. Had it checked out and they say everything is out--well it did the same thing today-dead at a light (this time I had my small battery jumper). Checked it out my self and seems to not be charging at full capacity when the alternator is hot ( 101 today here in tennessee). Also noted that my upper radiator hose was flat and lying on the belt and starting to wear a spot in it-had to tie it up to pull away from the belt. Checked the hose when I got home and it was full. So two questions for anyone out there: 1) is the upper radiator hose just a thermostat not opening all the way or something else? 2) Could there be another porblem with my charging system or --as I have read here-- my alternator just going bad in this again? I have checked all my connections-grounds and all seem ok.

Thanks--Russ ans Donna in Tennessee-Love our rover-3 feet of sand and it drove like it was on a highway!
