Default *&^$# belt tensioner!!!

Is there a way to loosen the amount of tension on the belt tensioner so I can slip the new belt on? Having a hard time getting my hands in there to push it down far enough so I can slip the belt over the alternator. Yes, it is on the right way! And yes, it is the right belt! Is there some trick I am not savy too?
Thanks

Usually there is a place to put a 1/2" breaker bar or socket wrench, which you can then pull back towards the pivot point of the tensioner.
If not try:
a socket on the tensioner pully bolt or a big-ass screwdriver to use as a pry bar.

Got 'er done! Called DiscoMike and he told me the same thing - to use a wrench. It worked! Yeah! Oh...that infamous ticking noise...it is now gone - there was about an inch long section of the old belt where the 5 grooves had worn off. I am lucky it didn't fail me before this!

No kiddin'! I had been trying for about an hour to push it down with my hands. It would move but I couldn't get my hands in there to push it the last 1/2 inch so the belt would slip on. My hands are a tad bit bruised but I'll heal! With the 15mm wrench...it took about 5 seconds!

Thanks DiscoMike!

Well...if I hadn't of woken up so late from drinking too much beer waiting for emails from Kelli ...I might have tackled this project sooner and taken the boys to play in the snow...
