Default Big Thanks to all of you...

I am new to this site, as well as a new owner of a1998 D1 with 81,000. I live in Boston, and will most likely be using my truck for beach romps on Cape Cod.

I have been reading old posts on here during my lunch breaks and at night, I have learned so much.

I found out were to get a manual on CD, learned about Sea Foam (would be interested in seeing exactly were to put this stuff, could not open the old photo on the past post.) , Sorta learned the basics of how to replace break pads and rotors and so much more regarding equipment. I love the super model quote.. Fiance did not think it was as funny as i did... oh well.. I need to break her in anyway..

I will tell you this, It's a breath of fresh air knowing that there is such a great resource out there to help an eager but novice wrench turner like myself.

I wish you all the best and thank you again for all the information.

Oh, as I am eager to start the Mod process... since my truck is sadly stock... if anyone can point me in a decent direction for a brush bar on the cheap side that would be a nice start..

(oh and I read that thread as well.. I know the stock guards are useless. but at least its a start of things..

Take Care

Joe

Default HD Wheeling in NH, Maine and VT for sure

My crystal broke a long time ago.. so I have difficulty seeing the future.. but I am pretty sure, knowing me as well as I do.. that I will be hitting some trails soon. Living in the city, i tend to drive over curbs just to satify this crazy urge to get out of the concrete jungle and wheel a bit..

I think one of my first of long list of things i will be getting is rockers.. I just read on how vital these things can be..

Oh course I live in the real world so I will have to budget and save for most of the toys I am dreaming of.

I would like to at least get my truck. I call it Rex! (long story, but some crack addict t boned my car three weeks ago, [hit and run) some guy on the street got the plate.. Anyway.. because of this "reck" I got my rover... hence "Rex the Rover" is born..

I'd start with getting an RTE front bumper (and a winch of course!). Its first one my list for mods to my stock 98. I did take off the front air dam already though (much improved approach angle).

Welcome to the site. As you already know you'll find just abou everything you need to know about your rover on here and even somethings you might not want to ever know

Before you start making mods to your Rover, you should first think about what kind of offroading you'll be doing. If your not going to do alot of rocky trials, but are more likely to do sand and beaches (you mentioned the beaches at the cape), than you might want to look at other things before getting the rock sliders. Also before you start adding things, make sure you go over the basics and make sure everything is in good working order before adding on to the rover.

Best of luck and I am sure you'll become a rover junkie just like the rest of us on here

Brush bar? Dude, as soon as you learn more about your truck that will be the first thing to come off. Don't waste your money on a brush bar - or as we call them - radiator eaters.

Welcome to the forum!
First, get diff guards, sliders (MoFab), rear recovery point (MoFab), then get the lift - but only go as high as you need to go - our trucks are top heavy.

I guess it depends on how risky you are and where you want to put your money?

A vehicle with a 3" lift and 32s can go places where a stocker with armor cant. I have built my rig to date with this concept and I still dont have sliders/diff plates Though, hopefully by the end of the summer I will make them. But rear bumper is first.....I rarely hit my diff (all it takes is once sometimes) but I always get caught on the back......I guess im still taking the 'bang for buck' route....but hey, it works!

Under this thinking I went: 3" (2.8") OME lift, tires, cut bumper (see....no need for RTE now ), then another custom lift OME-Bilstein 7100s/RTE. Btw, cones are for chumps, spring retainers are where its at --control over articulation.

Default Magnetic oil pan screw and filter mag?

thanks John Conklin for some sound advise.. as well as all the others who chimed in.. it seems to me that the brush guard AKA radiator eater.. ha ha (Nice touch of with from Black Widow) is out..

Diffgards seem like a smart buy, I will start with these.

One thing i am eager to get, especialy because of the milage on the truck was the magnetic oil pan screw and filter magnet... Does anyone have these and do they help?

Thanks again for the warm welcome by all. Glad to be part of the group.

Joe

I was just going to ask how you got my last name and then I realized it's in my sig line. Boy do I feel like an ass now

I have been thinking about getting the magnetic oil plug, but haven't as of yet. I run a 5-10 min flush through the oil every few oil changes and it seems to work pretty good along with seafoam a few times during the year.
