Unhappy Big Trouble!

Took my girls out to the local sand pit today to get some fine sand to go underneath their new pool, big mistake!
I guess I got greedy a put too much sand on the trailer, ended up getting stuck!
After fooling around for a while I unhooked the trailer and got out of the hole. 2nd mistake decided to go back for the trailer full of sand got stuck again while trying to get out the second time something let go! Now my truck will not move!
Front driveshaft goes around, no wheels move, rear driveshaft doesn't even move. Tried all gears a diff lock combinations nothing! We had to walk to the nearest phone (never took the cell DUH !) and call someone to tow us out.
Any thoughts on what I may have destroyed while playing in the sand??

With your center differential unlocked and your front driveshaft spinning without motation, it sure sounds like you wiped out a CV, or possibly snapped a halfshaft. BUT, what I am having trouble getting my arms around is still no movement with CDL locked. I'm guessing you never actually got it locked, even though you moved the lever to lock. I know on my 110, I have to really lean on it when I let the clutch out, and then it will engage. It seems the flex in the linkage makes you think it's locked when not really. Do you actually know that neither back wheel was turning? Try it again on dry pavement. You'll at least be able to drive it, with out repairing what crapped out up front, but don't push your luck too hard, as a blown CV, cage, and other parts, could get caught between the spiining parts and the inside wall of the swivel ball, and then you could wipe out the swivel too. Free sand ain't so free, right?

yes I do. Since your rear wasnt moving, but the front was--and niether wheel, then its either the axle or something in the diff. Its more likely that you broke an axle over the R&P or spider gears, but thats just a guess....only way to really find out is to get in there and check.

Clearly then, your center diff is not locked. Just to be sure (sometimes people forget) the lever moves right-left for diff lock. Fwd/Aft for Hi/Lo.

When the diff is loked, bith front and rear drive shafts are locked together and therfore turn together (at the same rate)

My money is on a blown CV joint. The cage probable tore apart and the balls dropped out.

Easy way to find out which side it is. Jack up one wheel at a time and with the center locked, the wheel that turns is the one with the blown CV.

I have the drivers side cv out looks ok. With the diff lock in neutral I can rotate the front driveshaft and nothing turns? Does this sound like problem in the diff?

When you say 'nothing turns' I am assuming you rotated the driveshaft before you removed the drivers side CV. That being the case, it's either the CV on the other side, or the pinion gear is stripped (very unusual)
Your Center differential does not have a neutral, it's either locked, or unlocked. Your transfer case has a neutral position between the hi range and the low range.
Now, back to the problem; If you stripped the pinion gear, drain the front differential and swish a magnet through the drained oil. What do you find? If you trashed the pinion, your going to harvest a whole load of trash. If the oil comes out clean, and you get nothing on the magnet, keep looking, right side CV next.

Center diff is not locked, period. Even if the "diff lock" light is on, something is not engauging. Probably just a little rusty in the linkage.

In the front end, my money is on the diff. I bet you got the wheels spinning wildly and the pinion pin busted. Only way to tell is to pull the front end apart.

Will Tillery can get you what ever you need for cheap.

Results of removing Front Diff, two trashed Spider Gears and one Trashed Side Gear. Everything else is OK, new parts on the way!

I think I will just replace original for now and investigate the best way to replace both diffs. What is a truetrack? Where do you get it?
