My '97 Disco is overheating but not visibly leaking coolant anywhere. There does not appear to be coolant in the oil either, which is good. I am getting a bit of a thumping sound out of the tailpipe at idle and the smoke (steam?) is white. I am also hearing what sounds like a lifter tapping. Engine has 167,000 miles on it and I bought it about 6 month ago with a considerable water pump leak and replaced that right away. I am thinking that it is time to tear into the engine and do a whole gasket set. Also, I am quite sure that I have a freeze plug leaking (which seemed to be fixed when I ran a cooling system stop leak a couple of months ago.
Anybody got any suggestions? Tom |
