I have a 97 Discovery 5 spd does not get driven on a daily basis brakes worked just fine until one weekend I got in to go for a trail ride and the break pedal felt fine when the car was not running but as soon as I started it the brake pedal went right to the floor and you have to pump the brakes to get them to work. The fluid level is fine check it before every drive and the level never goes down.
Is it the brake booster? Is this a common problem? Any way to check the booster to make sure that is it before I go out and buy one? Thank you for your help Scott |

Had that happened to me on the highway. I pressed for a hard stop and then the brake pedal went to the floor on my 96 D1 with ABS. When I had the brakes checked, one of the front brake pads had split in half after being worn down. You now know what to do and what to look for. Dont underestimate the power transmitted to the brake pads for the ABS system. It is very powerful and I learned a lot about the robust power on some of the factory systems on a Rover. I just discovered a rear drive shaft that had its bolts holes severed after a rough winter. Adam in NYC USA PS if you are going to use it for off-road, why not upgrade to the premium metal/klevar pads and the slotted/drilled rotors for best stopping performance.
